I leave a nightlight on as well and it really helps. My bedroom is the coolest place also but if I crack the window in the room next to where they are now and put a fan in the doorway it keeps it cool enough in there. I only need that during the fall and spring. Obviously I use AC in summer but also no heat in winter. For winter we use a space heater in our bedroom so they stay cool enough. I know other people have this problem as well. Is there a window near the living room that could keep it cooler with a fan? (far enough as to not have a draft) ...I guess this will only work if you have cool weather though :hmm:

have you tried wiring a coffee cup to the side of the cage? that might work as a 'hay box' until you can get a fleece hay bag.

It's funny that you say that, cause it's exactly what I did! Works like a charm!

And yes I feed mainly loose timonthy hay and leave some cubes in the cage, but she (yeah, it's a she now) doesn't care for them at all. I read that unlimited alfalfa and Timothy is good until age 1, and then alfalfa should be given as. Treat only.

We actually keep the house pretty cool in the winter, but for example today it was -30 Celsius in Montreal. There's NO WAY we can keep the heat off in the living room, the apartment would just get too cold. On days like this I turn the heat on in the bedroom for short bursts (or the tv on for the day), just to keep it at a stable temperature so that we don't freeze, and neither does the chin.

The other issue is that my MIL smokes. I don't want to expose Chia to it... Our room is relatively smoke free since we keep the door closed, but the rest of the apartment isnt smoke free at all.
