Hi guys!

I was playing with Tinkerbell last night when I noticed she had hard scab like lumps directly under one ear, about the size of a fingertip. I haven't noticed this before. I couldn't see it through her fur, but I'm guessing it is a scabbed area from scratching? Do chins have claws that can do damage like that? I can't think of anything that she would have come in contact with that would injure her. It doesn't seem to bug her but I will be keeping an eye on the area to make sure it doesn't get worse. I haven't seen her excessively scratching her ears, but I have seen her scratch them before. Is it the change in weather? More dust baths or less? She gets a bath every couple of days or so, but I have been known to forget to take the dust bath out of her pen. Thank you for any help you can offer!!!!

Chins do have claws, but they are more like our finger nails rather than claws. She could have scratched herself, but I'm not sure. Just keep an eye on it.

I guess I am concerned about whether or not it is a scabbed over a scratch, or some sort of growth. I can't see it, I can only feel it. I don't want to take Tink to a vet unless absolutely necessary, and at this point, the area is only a concern, and not in need of immediate attention. But I will keep my eye on it to see if the spot changes.

If you blow on her fur, can you see it? Or get help holding her and then part the fur.

That would be one way to look at it to see what it is.

Turns out there was not a scratch/scab under her ear. When I felt the area again the next day, I realized that the crunchy was stuck in her fur. I am not sure what she got into, but she is just fine, and without injury. She just needed a good cleaning!!
