What about The Exorcist? I saw that one at about 16 and was freaked out!

I don't know...10 years old. Regardless of whether they are mature...I'd be freaked out to let my 9 year old watch these.

This one is kind of old school but it was definitely a fun one to watch when I was 11, The Willies. It was like Goosebumps made into a short movie.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0103268/

There's also Pulse which was fairly creepy. Dumb premise and horrible plot, but for a 10 year old it would be a pretty good creepy movie.

Dead Silence was a fairly creepy one, but I'm not sure if you want them freaked out by dolls. On that same note there are the Puppet Master movies which are always a fun watch.

Hailey has seen IT and loved it. She also watch Jeepers Creepers and loved it. When she was little and LOTR came out, her favorite part was seeing the guy's heads on the stakes... LOL

Her mental level is well past most kids her age, and there are many scary movies that are just scary... supernatural stuff she loves.

They were watching poltergeist one night ( our house is the preferred sleep over house apparently and their friend usually stay over every other weekend) I went out to close down the chin unit and apparently right as I left out the front door the power to half the house went out. If the heater in my office is on, you can't turn on the microwave because the circuit will pop. Then I come around the house un-aware of this, and banged on the large windows behind them, but they thought the noise came from downstairs, when I cam back in I had four girls all screaming like a bunch of pygmies speaking in tongues trying to express what happened, and when I figured it out I just busted up laughing, lol.

If I am thinking of the same movie as you, I seem to remember naked ladies in that one.

There are! I totally spaced it off. You'd think as many times as I have watched that movie I'd remember that at the time I replied. Chemo brain at it's finest! I'll certainly be glad when/if these brain cells ever start to reconnect!
You would think they could make at least a few more movies with out sex, or extra parts!

I recently saw Pitch Black. I think it's an older movie, but I thought it was kinda scary and I don't remember any sexual stuff...

Piggybacking on ^ that, the whole 'Riddick' series is pretty suspenseful, mostly jump scares. If they like Sci-fi, they'd probably want to start w/ "Pitch Black" (Vin Diesel is a violent convict being transported to an intergalactic prison when the space ship he's on crashes on a deserted planet... populated by monsters that periodically come out of hibernation en masse), then watch "Chronicles of Riddick", set about ten years later, when Riddick/Diesel has escaped from prison (yet again) and has to save the last few populated planets in the system from a death cult. Dame Judy Dench and Karl Urban (Eomer in LotR, the bad guy/operative in the first two Bourne movies) are in that one. There are some animated 'gap fillers' available too, but iirc, one of those gets a little "adult", so check Imdb about it.

what about "the Strangers" i watched that a few years ago on Halloween - made me jump a few times. I'm trying to think if there were any sex scenes, i don't remember any - just a lot of suspense

I love scary movies and so does my 14 year old daughter. Some of our favorites are Alien, Silent Hill, Dark Water, The Others, Sleepy Hollow, The Brothers Grimm, The Ring, Blair Witch Project, and there was one with Kate Hudson about voo doo that I can't remember the name of. There is also the Saw series but they are not everyone's cup of tea.
Re: The Exorcist. I had seen it on tv when I was a teenager, this was before HBO or PPV so it was an edited version. When I was about 2O it was showing at the midnight movies and I went with a bunch of friends and it scared the total heebie jeebies out of me. To this day, the thought of it gives me the willies. My husband has a copy of it, and he's only allowed to watch it if I'm not home and he has to promise to remove it from the DVD player immediately after because I don't want to take the chance that I'll accidentally hit the "play" button. I know, I'm a weirdo.

Especially The Watcher in the Woods.

I was obsessed with that movie because it scared me so much when I was younger. I watched it probably not quite ten years ago and found it entirely unscary. It was a sad experience. But it has sentimental value for me.

Any Japanese or Korean horror movie, neither culture is big on nudity and they have SUPERB plots!

The Watcher in the Woods and Something Wicked This Way Comes are older movies but both scared me pretty bad when I was younger. Especially The Watcher in the Woods.

those movies scared the poo out of me when I was a kid too!

I liked "The Others," though I don't think that's gory, just scary.

I really like this movie as well!
