So had she gone in sooner would they have been able to save her? Im still unclear what exactly she died from. I've read she may have had a preexisting issue?

According to this article, going to the hospital right away and getting a simple CT scan could have saved her life. Scary, when you think about how often people just brush things off! But I guess it's hard sometimes to find that balance between that and being a "hypochondriac". :hmm: It's so sad what happened to her, though. She was a good actress.

They should make helmets mandatory on ski hills. It's already mandatory for kids here, since a little boy at one of our ski hills hit a tree and died because he had no helmet on... So sad.

Yeah, It's sad all right that she didn't think enough to wear a helmet. I'm sorry, but it just makes me angry that people can't be bothered to protect themselves. Her poor little kids are motherless now and her family is going through so much grief... I feel sympathetic, but this could have been prevented!!!

My guess is that she didn't think anything could go wrong on the beginner slope. Most accidents are on the more advanced slopes. My husband took me skiing for the first time and I spent more time on the chair lifts than going down a slope. I remember falling a lot (let me emphasize A LOT) but I don't think I ever hit my head. It's sad, because she must have felt ok enough to continue her day without a hospital trip - as most of us would have done - and how tragic that it ended this way.

The doctors in Montreal called for mandatory helmet use 3 weeks before this accident but nothing has been done yet. Hopefully this will serve as a wakeup call to ski resortsthat helmets can prevent such injuries. Today my dad and little brother are going skiing and although adults don't have to wear helmets, they both are going to.

You are waaay more likely to have a fall or an accident if you are a beginner.

But, I mean, come on! Strap 2 pieces of wood to your feet and hurl yourself down a snowy and slippery slope. That sounds like a helmet situation to me!

I know they want to pass a law to make it mendatory, but the ski resort don't want to police everyone. I mean bike helmets should be mandatory too. It's also life saving, my ex-boyfriend would have died without his.

absolutely terrible shock. i knew her grandfather years ago when i was a teenager - what a wonderful and gifted family! (even if her mom is ANTI israel...)

and just to mention to all of us who have kids that fall down and get up on soccer, hocky, whatever fields - we need to be more careful about assuming they are fine just because they say so. i will start carrying a small flash light with me so the pupils of the kids can be checked after a fall or a collision...

That's why I won't be strapping two skiis to my feet...I'm getting too old to get up from a fall like that! I'm guessing a beginner doesn't think they will have built up enough speed to have a life threatening situation on their hands. Most accidents you hear about are the guys who are out of bounds o the guy who crashes into a tree....not many I've heard about on the beginner slope. It is such a tragedy, though, and maybe her accident will have more beginners realizing that they need to take more precautions.
