Recently, my girlfriend and I purchased a new chin from a pet store as a friend for our first one. The first thing I noticed on him was some scaling on the tip of one of his ears. The pet store assured me it was just dry skin and vasaline would clear it up. After having him home for a day or so, I noticed the new guy's constant itching and biting at himself. After researching for hours on the internet, I brought him to the vet to see if he had ringworm or another skin ailment. The vet, who admitted he wasn't an expert in the chin field, thought it was ringworm, dabbed it with iodine (not the tincture kind,) and instructed me to use the iodine on the infected areas for a week. Also, he recommended adding Lamisil or another foot powder to the dust bath and to keep the two chins seperated for about a month (bummer.)
Now I've noticed him biting at his feet and wonder if there are more than just the two localized spots we were able to find at the vet. Is there any sure way to rid ringworm or to expedite the process? Am I taking the right steps? How else can I protect my healthy chin? Thank you.
