This one strikes me as a bit odd. I have two FN cages. Three girls in one. Two boys in the other.

Several months back they had the standard plastic trays that come with the cages. The boys bottom tray had two big corners chewed out of them. (Ppl before me didn't know the boy needed things to chew on) One on the top left, other on the bottom right.

At first i just had the Aspen litter covering the trays. That was a lot of fun with so many chins. The boys cage i had to avoid placing to close to the wholes tho cause it would all just fall out.

The girls started training themselves. (which i loved lol) They started only using certain corners over and over. So i started only putting litter in the corners they were using and leaving the rest of the trays clear. Which worked fairly well. I had some extra plastic corner litter pans that never worked so well with my ferrets years before. So i decided as a temporary measure to try and put them in to see if they would use them.

I put like 4-5 corner trays in the girls cage. (3 on bottom, 1-2 on top). And despite always trying to rip them off the connectors, they actually did use them. Very well.

I only had like two extra after that to use in the boys cage. So i used one on the bottom to cover the whole, and one on top. With so few i didn't expect it to work perfectly. And that was they case. They did use them, but they used some other areas as well. The one area they used the most, (i sure don't know why tho) was on the second floor, on the north side of the cut out. So if they hoped up on the north part, they would hop into it. (with other options, i don't get why they chose their.)

So, a couple months ago i was finally able to get the metal bass pans, along with some metal corner litter pans. I put them in the cage, used some old litter in the pans to give them the scent of where to go, and what they are for. And it was working pretty well for a while.

I figured my boys might still use their favorite old spot after changing things over. But they didn't. They haven't used it once. They are only using the pans. Like it was something they did their whole lives. (And the one guy is at least 5+ years old) Its pretty amazing.

The girls on the other hand. They were using the pans for a while. But the girls that originally trained themselves, seem to have untrained themselves. They still use the pans, but their also using the trays. A lot! Every morning i come out and their several puddles to clean up. Its like they just don't care anymore. However, their are three girls in that cage. I don't know if its all of em doing it, or maybe just one. Because they never do it when I'm actually around. In fact this morning was the first time one of them used the tray in front of me.

I just find it odd. Its like the two genders both switched habits at some point. And despite cleaning the girls bottom tray especially, its starting to look pretty bad.

Sorry for the block of text. I didn't think it would be this long when i started typing it.

:wacko::wacko:

I would start with getting/making fleece linners for your pans so at least you won't have puddles or ruined pans. That way you can shake off the fleece and wash it when you need to.

Yea id love to. I wanted to long before i got the trays and pans. But unfortunately I'm in an apartment. Can only get laundry done once every 2 weeks at best. And that simply wont work with fleece liners. (And i doubt the Laundromat ppl would be happy if they ever found out what they were)

i often hand wash liners in my bathtub, and hang them to dry. works alright in a pinch when i either don't have change for laundry (coin operated machines here in my building) or the laundry machines are being used when i have to do chin laundry.

Consider yourself somewhat lucky. Id have to drive a few towns over every time to use a machine'
