That's awesome you took them in. Are you planning to keep them or eventually try and rehome them?

UPDATE: For all of you who have been asking questions, donating and supporting me, the 5 chinchillas are home. And should soon be settled. Turned out there are 4 girls and a boy (They didn't sex them correctly). They are scruffy and will need some major TLC but they are still gorgeous chinchillas. A vet visit has been made for next week for all five. 2 girls have loose stool and the boy has mucus in his eyes but all of them are getting looked at. They have been given the a mix of the food they were feeding (kaytee with treats) and mazuri. Hoping to get them swithed fully to mazuri. They are very skittish and obviously haven't been handled much but hopefully with proper care, time and TLC they will be sweet little babies. Thanks again guys! :)

Sometimes a cold turkey switch is the best way to go. Especially if they are on crap food like Kaytee. Since some of them have loose stool I'd do hay only for a few days, then put them on a good feed when it clears up.

I gave the ones with loose stool burnt toast. Hmmm I didn't about the cold turkey switch. I'll do that instead and throw out the kaytee. Thanks :)

They are doing really well. It turns out that all the symptoms they were having was just from the bad food, which isn't suprising. They have been getting better with human contact although one of the girls attacks a hand anywhere near the cage. I have a feeling she was abused. I am thinking of taking her in as my own and not rehoming her so she gets the TLC and handling she needs to become socialized. 2 other girls and the boy are rather shy and huddle in the corner but they no longer bark and squeek when someone comes in the room. They allow petting and scratches occationally. The 4th girl is rather social and comes to the front of the cage for scratches and loves to climb on me during play time. All around they are alot better, healthier, and they just seem so much happier. I will continue the socializing process and make sure they are fully healthy and happy before rehoming any of them. If anyones interested, I will continue to post updates and pictures of progress.

I would love to see pictures. It's great they are all doing better and are in a better home. I hope the one girl gets more use to being in a new home, and realizes your not like the other person who may have abused her. It will probably just take some time. But it's great your thinking of keeping her to help her.

Okay, I will make sure to get some pictures taken :) Yes it is and I hope she realizes that too. Even if she never does, she will still have a home here. It's not her fault she's like this.

Very true! What you did was an awesome thing!
