Powder is on day 4 of his treatment for Giardia. The first two days went great--he was pooping normally, it wasn't mucousy, and he had much more energy than before starting the meds.

Day 3 sucked. He scared the crap out of me with his listlessness and snipping every time I went near his belly. He felt bloated, so I treated with simethicone. He also had a little bit of whitish mucus on one or two of his poops.

Day 4 has been up and down--he seems more active and less bloated (still doing the simethicone), but I noticed a decent amount of reddish-brown jelly on a few of his poops. It wasn't runny, had the consistency of liquid adhesive, and was on four or five of his poops.

Should I take him back to the vet? Or is this common for a chin on medication? I'm just so worried that I may miss something important and not go in until it's too late.

It's still just irritation in the intestines. The mucus turning brownish always seems like a good sign to me, almost like it indicates the intestines are starting to feel better. There's a lot going on in his little intestinal tract right now. I'd say that it is very common for this to occur with a chin with giardia on this medication.

His energy level is better and that's a good sign. I wouldn't worry about this. All the vet could do with the mucus is take a sample and get a culture on it....BUT, you already know what the problem is, so that won't help much! :D

I've keep giving the simethicone a couple times a day. Maybe perk the little guy up with handing him blades of timothy hay or a tiny shred of shredded wheat every now and then. Or, even better yet, give him new toys to demolish. The best thing you can do is to keep his spirits up and keep him occupied. :)
