All this advice is so great! Thanks everyone. I'm SUCH a perfectionist. I think I'll be nit picking every hair on show day. :)
When I had my lesson we finished with the lint roller. Seemed to work really well. As I said in the original post of this thread...the BEFORE and AFTERS of a groomed chin are amazing! I personally think my chins are stunning now. I can't wait to see what they look like groomed. lol

I tried to hold the chin up by the tail but it gets heavy after a while! haha. I ended up having it on a towel on my lap. It was easier to maneauver the combs through I found.

Maybe I should try my dogs shedding blade on my chin to see if it works like a lint roller?
Has anyone tried that? Much easier to handle than a saw blade and basically the same type of blade. Could this be a new tool? :)

AH HA!

Knew I had a comb picture around somewhere. These are the types of combs you can buy that are used internationally. I've never seen a #7A used and would love to know what it is for.

Often after a long show you'll hear the judges make comments about sore arms. They do get heavy after picking up and inspecting a hundred or more.

We have number 00, 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 8, and 9's available here and have had for many years. I have uses for them all in my show prep.

Those look like nice combs! My mentor had combs that were one number on one side, and another number on the other side. But I think I like the idea of having individual combs better. The grips look better.

So the Judges take the chins out of their cages and hold them up??? If so, I wasn't aware of that.

She means picking up each cage with the animal inside. Last years show we (myself and a friend) got there at 9 am and didn't leave until what time Tara 7 pm or so, when the show finally ended? That makes for a long day for the judge!

One thing to mention about lint rollers, I use them but you need to be careful with them - I would always practice with a new one - I have seen cheap ones leave an adhesive residue on the fur and I have seen some that weren't properly on the roller (lifted up on one side already) grab and rip out huge chunks of fur across the back. I usually roll it one time on another surface before I put it on the chin.

I like the hacksaw blade when I rough groom chins that are pushing lots of fur.

Generally, I rough-groom all my animals with a #4 (and hacksaw blade if necessary) about a week or two before the show and then dust about every other day up until a few days before the show. On the morning of the show, I rough-groom with a #3 or #4, depending on the chin. Sometimes I will use the hacksaw blade again. Then I use a #2 or #1, depending on the chin. I get the rest of the loose hair with a lint roller.

I am a slow groomer though. Now that I'm bringing 20+ animals to the shows, I really need to pick up the pace!

I'm anxious to watch at the show. I don't see how one can groom quickly??? LOL Grooming that one chin at my lesson took a LONG time. :hair:

Sumiko...I know you aren't a slower groomer than me..at the show I met you at last year, those three chins I entered took me 2.5 hours to groom! I'm surprised they still had fur on them! :)

At an ECBC show, the white class includes both pink whites and mosaics, though they are judged separately with the 1st place animals of the darked eared whites and pink eared whites going against each other for the Class Champion and Reserve Class Champion titles.

I am soo terrible at grooming its not even funny! I need to sit down again with someone and have them show me bc I ruin each one I bring!

I watched Ralph and Barbara one time while I was talking to Ralph. Barbara would take the groomed animal from Ralph and take her open hand and start from the butt to the neck and sweep across the animal. Then into the show cage it went.

After I groom I roll a lint brush over them. If it disturbs the pattern too much I do the same thing I saw Barbara do. After that I put them on a flat surface and grab one ear and the tail by the base and give them a little wiggle shake.

Since most of the shows I attend are MCBA.......I print my paperwork off the MCBA web page and take it with me already filled out.

At MBCA eventsz pink whites with spots are put in the mosaic class. If they don't have any spots they go in the pink white class. I really raises the bar on pw breeeders to have clear white coats.

On the topic of grooming,Sure going to miss seeing my father (Vin Somavia) in the corner at the shows grooming!!!!!!!!!!!
