I bought a whole house emergency back up generator off CL from a guy who was having his house forclosed and needed it gone ASAP so I got it for a good price. We have a generator at the shop so that was the plan, stay there when the power went out but I fiqured why not stay at home? Last time during the 1989 quake the power was out for a week. This thing is cool, automatically starts up when the power goes out, runs on propane or natural gas so we are going to hook it up to the house and have propane on the side incase the gas goes out. Had to go about 60 miles up into the Los Gatos hills on mostly dirt roads to get it. The chins now are safe from the heat during a outage!

The generator-this was fun to drag out and put onto the truck

The thing has its own circut breaker box so John had to remove it, only sparked once!

Wow that thing is a monster. Very nice. Is it going to be a pain in the butt to install? Is that thing behind it the propane cylinder? I wonder how long it will run on propane.... Or can you use regular cylinders for grills

I'd love to have a whole house back up generator! That's great that you got it for a good price, those things get very expensive... My generator only runs the window units, I'm jealous.

Just keep a few cylinders of the propane around and you will sleep well. I actually like the idea of running a generator on that rather than using gasoline. It's definitely cleaner and easier. Someday I'll get something better like yours. :)
