I was wondering if there is a normal number of quills a hedgie will lose in a day? mine is about a year and a half so he's not quilling but i find one or two a day. He's been treated for mites and he doesn't have any balding spots. He does have dry skin which i can see flaking off and he itches every once in a while. i give him a bath about once a month and i put vitamin E on him after, i also mix a tiny bit of olive oil in his food. I check his back everyday to see if his dry skin is getting better or worse and i check for mites or at least what i think a mite would look like. is there anything i am doing wrong of could do different so he wont lose as many quills or maybe will help his dry skin?

thank you, Smile :)

What is the humidity like in your home? If it is low, you may want to consider getting a humidifier. It can help some with their dry skin issues.

Poptart used to lose quills all the time. She came here just shy of turning 2. Occasionally she'd go through a period where she wouldn't loose any, but most of the time she was losing a couple. Her skin was always fine, and she never got bald spots. For her it just seemed to be normal.
