Our chinchilla gave birth for her first time 1 week and 4 days ago. She only had 1 kit and it seems to be doing fine but we had a bad experience when trying to hand raise 2 newborn kits from a friend who's chinchilla died from giving birth. We are not sure what happend but both kits ended up dieing very early.

The mother is doing a great job doing everything on her own but I dont know when we should let it take a dust bath, when do we start it on pellets and when do we let it drink water?

All of this info in on here, but dust bathes after 10 days, water should be available at all times, and they will start to nibbles pellets usually within just a few days old. Good luck with your kit.

Congrats - oh and we need pictures :D

Dust baths can be given at anytime. Most people on here don't stop their regular dusting schedule for new moms. The kit will start eating food and drinking water on his/her own - just make sure everything is available in the cage.
