Hi

I just wondered if it is possible that a chin delivers after the 111 days because my chin was supposed to have her babies today and she didn't, I know she should have been due today because I happened to go into the chin room and found her mating on January 7, the same day I was taking pictures of my newborn babies, so calculated the 111 days and it showed me for april 28th, and today nothing happened, I know it's very hard to know the due date for a chin, but I happened to see her on the day she was mating.

I am just asking because I don't want her to have problems giving birth, she seems very calm, and she is standing in her two feet and has her fore paws in a little hut that is in her cage, and I touched her belly and the babies are still kicking, so I just wanted to make sure the babies were still alive. She seems fine, like nothing is happening, and I haven't noticed her stretching or something like that, I have been watching her almost all day to make sure she is doing fine and to be there in the case she needs it. Also, is it possible that chins give birth at night time or always morning? I know not very likely, but it's 8pm, and nothing happened.

thanks

I'm sure that others can correct me if I am wrong but as I understand it the 111 days is an average not a guarantee. Did you separate her right after that time you caught her mating? If not the count may not even start from that day on.

Just because you saw her mate, doesn't mean it took. It might have, it might not have. I always tell people, when you see kits, they're here!

Oh, yeah, why is that the count won't start on that day if she stays with her mate? just didn't know about it

111 is average. I've seen them go to day 120 or more or even have their babies at day 103. Some mamas let the little ones cook a bit longer than others. Mama chins can give birth at any time during the day...usually it is early in the morning, but sometimes it's in the afternoon or at night.

120? wow, that's lot, but if it ever happens that she doesn't have her babies after 120 days, would it mean that there's something wrong happening?
a friend told me that as soon as they reach 111 they chins would give birth, that's why I was worrying about her, I read about being 111 days gestation, but don't remember if it said approximately or not.

Not necessarily. She might go longer than that...it's okay if she does. As long as the mother or babies are not in distress and everything is going how it should there's nothing to worry about. 111 is just an average...and sometimes averages mean nothing. I've never heard of a chin going for longer than 125 days, or had that happen here. And, the only reason why I would even know that they are going for more than 120 days is because that is how long they've been away from a male. Who knows how many have gone longer and no one just never knows about it at all.

I know that everything is fine because my mother chins are happy, alert and eating...and I can feel the kits moving around. If everything seems alright, don't worry about it....I don't know why someone would say that they always have their kits at 111 days of gestation, that's really weird that they would believe that to be true if they have bred chins before.

I've had hundreds and hundreds of babies born here. I choose to not mess with my pregnant females (unless I see a reason they need to be messed with) because I don't want to stress them, so I often have no clue "when" babies are due. But--whenever I've had breedbacks , they have ALWAYS been between 110-112 days.

Peggy is 100% right, though. Just because you saw mating doesn't mean she got pregnant right then.

BTW- that doesn't mean I am advocating breedbacks. As a general rule, I don't think one breed back hurts a female, if the litter isn't huge. Even though I seldom remove the male before the birth, I don't have a lot of breedbacks.

thanks so much for your answers and your help, that relieves me a lot, I guess as long as the baby is still moving and the mommy looks fine, the baby should be born anytime soon. Here I have another female the same way, that still no babies and waiting and waiting

But good news, my female chin just had a an ebony s/c baby female this morning, she is so cute, will take her pictures soon. Now I am just waiting on my other female that is pregnant to deliver her babies

I am so happy that this baby was born today for my birthday, it is the nicest birthday gift I've ever had

Hi

I have another question about a pregnant chin,
My chin Malina is pregnant now from Coco, she is a dark ebony and Coco is a dark tan, the thing is that she gained about 130 grams or so from the pregnancy, and I had been feeling the babies kicking about a day or two ago, but now I don't feel them kicking anymore since then, is there a possibility that the babies are dead inside her without her even being ready to go into labour? I just wondered if I should worry about it or just wait a few more days, she is quite big, and the babies had been kicking for about a month or so, so she is very close to deliver.
