Hey, so I have a couple of chins and there are a few questions I have. (Not sure if this is the right place to be asking them but I guess I'll find that out soon enough)

- Their cage is located in my room, and on summer nights I usually leave my window open. Will this be of any danger to them? (as in can they get sick if it gets a little too chilly?)

- My dad's planning to paint the basement. They are in a completely different area but and I plan to keep the door shut to keep out any wandering/stray paint fumes from sneaking in. Would it be better though, for me bring my chins over to another house for a time? or would that cause too much stress?

-Also, does anyone have any recommendation for getting a chinchilla to sit still for more than half a second on a scale?

Thanks :)

1) Yes, they can get a URI (upper respiratory infection) if they're exposed to drafts.

2) Paint fumes spread a lot...if it were me I would probably move them to another house until the fumes had dissipated. You don't have to move their whole cage, they would be fine if they were each in a carrier with a food bowl, and a water bottle hung on the front.

3) I've found it helpful to give them a treat (I give a pinch of rolled oats). I sort of dangle the oats in front of them until they've hopped on the scale, and once they're on the scale they actually get the oats. Then they sit still and eat the treat, and I can get an accurate reading from the scale.
