I bought a few super nice chinchillas from a big well known breeder and I got a small card for each animal with only 6 animals in the background. Is this considered a ideal pedigree? I see most chinchilla pedigrees look like my rabbit pedigrees (3 generation) which for rabbits is considered a full pedigree. When all you breeders are buying animals, is this what you want, a 3 generation pedigree? I just want to make sure I have good pedigrees on them is all. Any help is appreciated to help me understand.

A 3 generation pedigree is common. Some breeders will give an extended pedigree that goes back farther but most of the info you will need will be within 3 generations normally.

Agreed. Some like more, but realistically, how much would more animals on there tell you? If you knew the breeder's animals for several years, by name and/or number, and go to shows, and breed with specific intentionality, then perhaps knowing that chin x or chin y is in a lineage may help. I'm not saying you aren't caring about or planning on breeding, but I've been breeding for three years and for the most part I can only glean a few bits of info from breeder's pedigrees....even ones that I know the breeder well. :)
