Yes. You can actually swap out what is considered the bottom shelf with the bottom that has the cut out, making for 2 separate cages. I have done this with my hedgehogs' cages. Another option is to leave the cut out in its spot and use a pan that covers the opening.

Yep.

I have an fn142 but it's two cages. :)

Okay so I just want to check with you guys - I can buy the 142, and set one cage in one home, and another cage in another home without having to purchase any more supplies (like pans etc)?

Good question and no. They are not separate in that you can house them in different locations. The bottom of the top section is the top of the lower cage.

If I were you I would just buy the 142 and close off the opening so that it separates the 2 levels. :)) have you checked craigslist?? I see lots on there located in NJ and I got my FN 141 on there for only $60

Ah, Okay.

I asked all this because Petsmart sells the 142, and not the 141. :(
Thought I'd get a 2 in one deal. Alright, thanks for all the help!

Actually you can separate the FN142 and make 2 separate cages. I use the top part of the FN142 as a quarantine cage to place in a different room. All you have to do is take the bottom shelf (pictured below) that comes with the cage and use that as the bottom of the top part of the cage.

What a great idea!

Off topic. OMG that is a FANTASTIC room. I totally need a bigger house with wood floors, lol. Is that their play room as well?
