Do you think it would be OK to let my new chin out of quarantine four days early?

He's doing great and the QT room is getting hard to keep cool as I like. It's getting up to 70 in there and I really don't like it over 68.

I haven't moved him yet and I won't if you all think it's dangerous.

Agreed!! I had to let one of mine out of quarantine about 5 days early because I moved and they are all fine.

Ehh, my cousin says he only quarantined his chinchillas for 4 days... his animals are all healthy.

Well, nine times out of ten they will be just fine, but I don't want to take those odds if I don't have to. I would not recommend skipping or shortening quarantine if you don't have to. I have taken in plenty of rescues that would have infected my whole herd if not for quarantine.

Yeah, just because some people choose not to quarantine doesn't mean you should tell others it's okay. If you have people who have had chins for years advocating quarantine, why would you think it's okay not to? Sure, the chins are okay and chances are many others are too, but when you get a chin from somewhere where you don't know its background or how well it was kept and it's health history why would you immediately put it with your other chin(s)? That's risking your present chin's health. They could easily catch something from the new chin if the new chin does have an infectious illness.
Besides, within 4 days you're not going to know if your chin is sick. The incubation period for many illnesses is longer than that.

No, no! I didn't mean it was okay... I was kind of asking about it. Of course, I'm not taking that risk with my chinchillas. I had meant to phrase it as a question.

oh haha well I read it as you saying well... your cousin's chins were okay so you didn't find the point of it really.
Sorry for the understanding. I hope my other post made sense as to why it is important.
