How exactly do you pronounce lanigera (as in Chinchilla lanigera) and brevicaudata (as in Chinchilla brevicaudata). I'm more concerned with the lanigera because apparently brevicaudata isn't the species name anymore as of a few years ago. It's now C. chinchilla (yes, it's Chinchilla chinchilla--I don't know why either...)

gah species names!!!

I'm doing a presentation tomorrow on chinchilla reproduction in my reproduction class. It's not too serious, not a big project--but I would prefer to not have to ask or make up a pronunciation. Thank you.

la-NIJ-er-uh, if my high school latin serves me...thats how I would pronounce it to my bio classes. Wool or fur bearer...or something like that.

Thanks, guys. I know you differ on how to pronounce the I in it, but I'll survive haha. At least I can kind of figure out how the word should sound, it helps.

We didn't present today but will on thursday. I forgot how nerve racking public speaking can be ahhh!!!

Anyways--I used one of Susan's and one of Tab's pictures in one of the slides (just asked them and it's ok) and I wanted to post the presentation so they could see it. I attached a PDF of what the powerpoint slides look like. I used other images from the internet but after citing the link and company/person's name I figured emailing everyone to ask for permission would be crazy. I don't really know proper internet protocol, so I hope no one's offended if they see a picture from their ranch/personal website (I asked the two people who's images I found on this forum since obviously they have accounts here and I can PM them).

There really is NO information on chinchilla reproduction and there are a lot of bad data. Craziness. I tried my best in the probably 10 days we worked on it. It's not a huge grade, so I knew it didn't need to be awesome.

Oy! I got all nervous and mumbly. It was painful. And I was too nervous to realize I was standing in front of the screen the whole time, probably blocking the slide show from the left half of the room.

I'm just glad it's over!!

Well....I have been pronouncing the name ''chinchilla'' wrong for a few years, haha, so I had to get that right before moving on to..Lanigera! Haha..

I pronounced it with the spanish 'i'...Chincheela. Hahahaa..Oops! And the ''eela'' with an Irish accent not American or English. Too weird, haha..
