Over the past month I've been trying to slowly introduce my chins. At first Beebo was the more aggressive one and would chase Bentley and try to mount him anytime they were together. I took a few members advice and cut Beebos whiskers until they were an inch or so long, and left Bentleys whiskers alone. Now it seems Bentley is the more aggressive one, it just came out of nowhere. When I try to put them in the same cage Bentley makes wheezing, almost growling, sounds and stands on his hind legs. So now his whiskers have been trimmed to the same length. I tried the 'smoosh method' last night for about 10 minutes(with vanilla on both noses and tails), and they got along for about 10 minutes after they were let out. While inside the smaller cage they seemed fine, except Bentley would nipped at Beebos tail twice.

Beebo used to be the one going after Bentley and trying to mount him, but now Bentleys going after Beebo and it looks like hes pulling out clumps of fur. They've never drawn blood or really injured eachother, but I want to make sure it doesn't get to that point. I've never seen Beebo act this way, its as if hes terrified. When I opened the cage to get him out he dove onto my chest. Usually when I open the door he just runs away. Bentley is just acting like a little monster! He was so calm the first few introductions, and let Beebo mount him on most occasions, but now its almost like hes tired of the crap...

So should I try the 'smoosh method' again tonight? Or does anyone else have any other suggestions? I understand everythings not going to go smoothly right away, and it will take time, I just dont want them to seriously hurt eachother...

Sometimes it takes a long time to introduce and sometimes it just cannot be done. Somewhere here Peggy (Tunes) has a cage within a cage method it has worked when everything else has failed 90% of the time...the other 10% nothing can be done to get the chinchillas together. If you do a search you should be able to find it. Smoosh method is not for the faint of heart

About 20 minutes ago, I attempted the 'Smoosh Method' again and Bentley bit Beebos tail again, this time drawing blood...

Anytime there is biting/aggression that causes blood shed, I do not allow the introductions to continue. That level of aggression is enough for me to cease the intro completely and just leave the chin as a loner. It also sounds like there is a lot of stress on the other chin, and judging from your other posts there as been a lot of aggression displayed. I wouldn't continue with this introduction.

Yeah, I'm not risking them anymore. I was hoping to open the entire cage, but I guess its just not meant to be, and I'm gonna leave it at that.
