Probably a stupid question.

So, it's probably a stupid question, but I wanted to ask anyway. I want to get Rodya neutered, and I know he can't be in a tall cage because of the dangers of ripping his stitches when jumping. I've been looking for a really long cage, but haven't found anything good yet (he's not set up for surgery or anything, I plan on getting the cage BEFORE I make an appointment). I was at my stepdad's place the other day, though, and saw my brother's old iguana tank. It's a 50 gallon glass tank with a screen top and 2 screen doors/windows on both of the shortest (WxHxL-wise) sides--top half of it is screen, bottom half of it is glass.
I know glass is bad because it traps heat, but I'm wondering if it might be okay for the short term (after surgery) because of the screens on the top AND sides.

What do you think? I'm guessing no, hence topic title...

My mom is trying to sell it, so I'm hoping to figure out if I can use it or not within the next 2 weeks so I can have her hold off for a little bit--it'd be nice to use something for free rather than paying for a cage I'll only be using for a month-ish. But Rodya's safety comes first.

You could probably leave him in his regular cage, just take out all the shelves and things that would make him want to jump, as well as the wheel, if you have one.

All 3 of my boys (first Mr. Whiskers and Baby, together, and then The Snuggler, alone) did little other than lay around in their cuddle cups and commiserate/snuggle with each other for the first few days. Baby was the only one that was active -- he even got on the wheel before I took it out.

Make sure that he has a nice padded bed or fleece pillow on which to rest. I put the fleece tube down on the floor so they wouldn't have to jump up into it and because they love being in it so much.

Good luck to you and your baby...
