Jax Chinchilla Rescue
Anyone who knows me knows I hate doing introductions. They stress me out to no end and yeah....I just hate everything about them. Well these two girls I had been trying to introduce for the past two weeks, and they had done pretty well, but not well enough for me to put them together. Both Sora and Pixie have have been in a pair in the past, and neither is aggressive so I know it was possible, it was just myself getting over the fear or introductions.
Well I had done cage in cage a few times and they got along while one was in the cage, but never outside of it. Never any severe aggression, but chasing and a bit of fur pulling. Today I was cleaning cages and decided to give another method a try. "Smooshing". I know some people find this mean, and you are more than welcome to your opinion. For me, it worked like a charm. I completely cleaned out Pixie's cage (the larger of the two) and changed out all the shelves and fleece items so that all their smells were gone. I also trimmed the whiskers of both girls. Then put both of them in one side of a two hole carrier and we went on a 30 min. car ride. The entire car ride there wasn't any aggression at all. They just groomed each other and layed on each other when they got comfy enough. By the time we got home they were both asleep. I gave the cage a once over with vinegar and let it dry while they spent a tiny bit more time together in the carrier. I let them out and woo hoooooooo for not a single speck of aggression! No chasing, no nothing. I now have a girly pair.
If everything works out between them I will adopt them out together and they will have a forever friend again.
Now here are some pictures of the two babies together. No cuddling pics yet as they both wanted to investigate the new cage before settling in for sleepy time. Photobucket is down so I'll have to attach them here.
