So this new 18 month old girl (gray with cute white belly) I rescued - Mabel - was housed with another female (all white) and 10, yes T-E-N, males. I'm not hoping she's NOT preg, I'm assuming she is because of the housing circumstances so I can be ready.
I have read everything I can get my hands on that you all have posted and linked out to. THANK YOU for all the good info.
I have my med kit ready just in case- formula makings, syringes, scale (and tupperware to put baby in on scale) and all the normal first aid stuff my vet helped me put together.
The baby-proof cage is sanitized and ready to roll.
Vet on stand-by.
Her activity levels are very normal, she's eating and drinking fine and her poop is now finally what I would expect. It was formed and shaped OK when I got her, but very small. Now she's diving through hay like crazy and loves it - I'm sure the fact that she has all the hay she wants for the first time in her life is helping with her digestion.
Her nipples are long like little needles.
She and Dale both lay on their sides...so no way to tell there (and Dale sometimes feet up scaring me 1/2 to death!). Her belly feels like any other (and I'm totally paranoid about bloating now since Nibbles...) and I give her snuggles every day and just run my hand over her belly (which she LOVES) when she comes up to me. I'm trying not to pick her up unless totally neccessary which bugs her, she's up in my lap and climbing up to my shoulder.
I'm just not sure when to put her in the baby cage. Are there pre-birth signs I can look for or should I just play it safe and move her now? Her adjustment to my house was very hard for her, so I'm not sure if I should separate her and Dale yet (he's neutered for those who didn't know) but I don't want to come down to a baby wandering the living room...maybe put her in the baby cage and butt it up against Dale so he's not so lonely. I wanted to see what you guys would do....
And if there are babies, is it safe to let Dale in with her and them and see how they do? He's such a sponge that I think he'd be a good daddy, but I wanted to see what ya'll would do...
Thanks!!
