Me? Addicted?
Hello everyone. I really need everyone's wishes and prayers for my mom.
My mom got admitted into the hospital yesterday because she was having severe asthma attacks. Like usual (she goes into the hospital a lot with her asthma), they gave her solu medrol to help her breathe, and like always it shoots her blood sugar up really high. But every other time, they've been able to control it with frequent insulin. However, today we were up there visiting her, and after we were there for about an hour she started slipping in and out of consciousness. I rushed to get a nurse while my brother and sister tried to keep her as aware as they could, and the nurse rushed in and gave her some emergency insulin, kept tapping her to keep her awake, and kept asking her questions to try to keep her alert. Then she rushed out and got a huge medical group of people to watch her and told us we had to leave. We didn't hear anything for hours. I just got a call from my mom and they moved her to the ICU and have her on a continuous insulin drip. She told me not to be scared, but what we saw was her slipping into a coma (her blood sugar was so high it wouldn't even register). She said if it wasn't for us acting so quickly, she doesn't know what would have happened. And the scariest part is, even though she's stable, they still must give her the solu medrol or else she'll keep having severe asthma attacks. They said she's not allowed to eat because they can't risk her blood sugar going up any higher than the solu medrol is already making it. And when I was on the phone with her, the nurse took her blood pressure and now that is dangerously low. I just don't know what to do. I'm trying to keep my cool for my mom/brother/sister, but I'm kind of losing it here. :cry3:
Please, send wishes and prayers my mom's way. She really needs them! I'm so worried for her.
