I have NO idea where I should put this question, so please move if necessary.

So I have noticed that a lot of the "show" chins have tiny metal tags in their ears. When I got Pippin I noticed she has a notch in her right ear... pretty much where I have seen those tags.

You can see it here

Do you think she used to have a tag that was somehow (I hate to think how) is no longer there? I am not thinking about showing her or anything like that. Just looking for more pieces to the puzzle that is her past.

If you got her from a breeder that shows in Empress shows it is possible but breeders typically do not remove ear tags. It is possible that it got torn out somehow but more probable that it was a birth injury as many moms pull on their kits a little roughly while giving birth and ears, fingers, toes and tails are where most birthing injuries or overgrooming injuries occur. Also possible that a cagemate took a bite out of her or that the breeder notched her ear to tell the difference between her and a sibling.

See, that is what I thought but just wanted to see what "the experts" thought. She is a rescue.

But it could also be a case of a bite when younger. I still lean towards it being an ear tag though. When she was younger though there could have been a fight over mom's milk or some other kind of sibling rivalry.

Could be a tag that was pulled off by another animal or it could be a notch from birthing or complications. No way to know
