oh yeah i remember this. it is mean there was one website i went to that had pics of ppls animal tattooed if i can find it i will post it

I think what they mean by "gray area" is just that the law does not list "piercing kittens for selfish, aesthetic purposes" under the umbrella of animal abuse. Since an actual "law" does not exist, typical measures for similar abuse cannot be put into effect until it is decided by the jury in the upcoming trial.

I think any jury would convict him.

Ughhh.. who would have thought of doing that? Some people will do anything to make a buck.. what a sicko.

I think that the person who did it is extremely immature--SELFISH!! My 11 year old asked me last summer if we could pierce our shih tzu's ears--SHe is 11 and learned all of the reasons why we should not and won't pierce our animal's ears!! She wanted to do it to the chin's too because she saw ear tags. I wonder how many more people ever do that to their poor animals

That's so dumb!
I've heard of that a while back too.
Look at this poor kitten! It looks extremely painful and I can't even begin to understand how people even think it looks good at all!

yes that was the site. im glad you found it. see there are all sorts of jacked up people in the world

oh my gosh! that is so horrible and sad! i dont know how anyone could inflict pain on animals on purpose like that! :tissue: just so sad..

Breeders tag and tattoo for identification purposes, so that is understandable, and with the invent of microchipping many now do that instead.

Those who do it purely for amusement or w/e though is just... ugh, it's horrible and disgusting.

ETA: On that website, a majority of the piercings/tattoos DO serve a purpose, and person tattooing/piercing on pig ear I just wanted to say it is dead pig flesh and it is a common practice for tattoo apprentices to practice on dead pig flesh as it's the closest to human flesh. A few of the tattoos and piercings however on that site are just sick.

That's just sick. Last summer my vet was telling me about a lady who breeds "homemade" Scottish fold kittens--as in, she takes any newborn kitten, pierces the tip and center of the ears, folds them over and secures them with some sort of earring or paper fasteners (she had seen them with both.) They are sold as "Glamour Folds." I haven't heard anything about it since, but I know at the time the vet was going to file a complaint. I'll have to follow up on that.

All this makes me literally sick to my stomach! Subjecting an innocent animal to an absolutely unnecessary painful and possibly dangerous procedure is abuse! Tattoos and piercings could get infected, and the piercing like on that cat could easily get caught on something and rip the poor cat's ear off! If it happened while the cat was alone, the poor thing could bleed to death and die lonely and in pain - for what? - and most likely nothing would ever happen to the owners. Those people are completely sick!

While I dont think it is right and just freaky, is it any different than ear cropping? It is to get your pet to look the way the owner wants it wether it be tattoed or ears cropped. I personally think that is sick as well.

From what I understand, ear cropping is becoming illegal in most instances aside from where it is needed for a certain purpose. (I think there's a breed that is prone to ear infections, therefore to lessen the chance of them, ear cropping is suggested, but that's not a direct quote. I could have misunderstood something.)

In the case of the kittens, this IS different than ear croppings. I think some of the kittens had piercings through the skin on the backs of their necks, etc. Those balled earings are heavy. These are things you have to worry about the animal pulling out and bleeding from, whereas croppings and such are a one-time thing.

I know it is different, I didnt mean it is the same thing. I meant they are both for vanities sake, nothing else. A dog or cat doesnt need earrings or a tattoo(other than ID reasons) and dogs(unless medically necessary) dont need their ears cropped.

You dont see your dog saying"they wont play with me cause my ears arent cropped and I dont have the latest belly tattoo". It is all owner vanity. I am glad they are making it illegal.

When I worked at a vet clinic we had a client come it with a chihuahua that had its ears pierced. I felt so sorry for the dog.
