I know I've seen pictures of someone showing a pelvis check with their thumb. I can't seem to find one. I looked through all the info on this part of the forum and didn't see it. My internet search did not come up with any pictures. However there was information on how to do it. Anyone?
Thanks.

I have never seen pictures of heard of a procedure for doing this. If the chin is currently pregnant, I don't know if I'd mess around with her pelvis trying to measure it. How big is the chinnie girl size wise?

I don't think she means that the chin is pregnant. What she means is that in picking females that go into breeding to make sure their pelvis can handle kits (even though some kits are still too large to pass so this is no guarantee), some breeders check the size of the pelvis by measuring with your thumb pointing towards the uterus. It's called the 'Thumb Test'.

Wish I had a photo for you, but I can't find any at the moment.

I have one unbred female here so I made a quick video of checking a chin's pelvis for you. I get asked this question a lot. :))

I have very small hands (use the smallest size latex gloves) so that visual with most people's thumbs in the position mine was in would be large enough.

I also got bit, males don't like it when you check their pelvis. :p I know his was too small, but he got another video on what to do with a biting chin that isn't uploaded yet.

Thanks everyone. I pulled my girls out yesterday and did a check. I took my time and did a very gentle round about. Everything checks out well. I realize so many things can happen with breeding. I've waited several years to put the right animals together and I'm just being cautious. And am ready for the unexpected for the future. My next step will be to pair them up as a colony or use my breeding run. Once again thank to all for your help. Look forward to seeing you again Mish next weekend.
