Ok, so everyone keeps going on about oxbow chinchilla pellets and i think its mad really that we cant seem to get it in the UK.....Well i started to look online and found this site:-
http://www.pet-supermarket.co.uk/products-Oxbow-Chinchilla-Deluxe_NC2484.htm

Is this right if so i might get some, i know it seems really expensive but i want the best and the highest in fibre food ive seen seems to be about 14%, i mix their food anyway with Beaphar Care plus and Science Selective which are both high in fibre.

Also i was wondering what food the UK people buy on here ??

Sorry, I know this wasn't what you were asking, but I've heard a lot of good things about Beaphar. We have many more members on here from the States so that's why you hear so much about Oxbow. If Beaphar was widely available here, I'm sure there would be more mentions of it! I know a few members here import that food.

i use the beaphar plus but only with my dental chin and slow gainers get just a few pellets.
One bag of that stuff with shipping costs me $35 dollars to the States!

the place I order from in the UK is: www.petswithhart.com they are on the Isle of Wright. i have NO clue of where that is but maybe you do! maybe they have something you would be interested in.

They both look correct. The picture in the first link has different packaging then what I've seen, and the picture in the second link is for oxbow bunny basics. Just make sure you're ordering Oxbow Chinchilla Deluxe and you should be fine. As it's been mentioned I've heard great things about the Beaphar and other british feeds. Try contacting C&H member ClaireD. She's from Great Britian and I'm sure she can point you to excellent feed that is readily available over there. I'm going to agree with Kate, you probably don't hear a lot about British feeds on this forum because most of our active members are from the U.S. and Canada.

Yea my chins do love Beaphar :D do you think its ok to just give them beaphar or should i get a pellet too, the reason i was looking for pellets anyway was to give more variety :)

Just went on the petswithhart website, the price are reasonable will most likely buy from there in the future :D

We bought Beaphar off amazon.co.uk, we originally ordered the 4 pack but only got 1, they gave us a full refund and we got to keep the 1 bag we did get :D

Isn't the Beaphar that you are currently giving your chin a pellet? I'm sorry, I'm confused with your question.

I have also purchased Beaphar Care + Chinchilla food from pets with hart. Since I had an extra bag from when my chin with malo was still around, I give the Beaphar to my other chins as a treat and they gobble it up as if I was handing out candy to a child. I would love to give this food to all my chins who are all currently on Oxbow, if they sold it in the U.S.

I buy Beaphar for some of my oldies & for chins who are off their food or have dental issues. I know many people who keep their chins on Beaphar alone & TBH if it was not cost prohibitive I would have my entire herd on it.
John Hopewell does them in 5Kg bags which work out cost effective (around £5.10 per Kg) if you've got a few chins & can use them within the sell-by date.
I've also used Supreme Science Selective Chinchilla pellets as a treat for my chins.

As for pellets used in the UK, many breeders use Duggins, some use Charnwoods (personally I do not because of the peanut meal in it), Henry Bell, Harrisons ...... For the rest of my herd I currently use Duggins. I have used Harrisons in the past too.

Thanks guys, at the moment they are on Beaphar and science selective mixed together and i will keep them on it :D i just like to mix their food up a little because they get bored :D will look into Duggins though. I will also keep an eye on pet planet :D

You don't want to mix their diets up much or often, even if you think they are getting bored. The simplest diet is best for chinchillas.

Does John Hopewell have a site?

Aww sorry to hear you cant order from him i will keep a look out incase i find someone who does.

I actually went right to the source. I contacted Beaphar International. I was having a problem with my chins eating a bag of food. the pellets looked different. (after leavingt the bag open for a week or so they started eating it again--weirdos!!) so i contacted customer service. and the woman who got back to me was awesome.
here is a cut & paste of why they can not ship to the US:

Dear Michelle,

Thank you for your nice words. And it is always so nice to hear that our products is doing so well, this is making me proud at our products. And of course we are willing to do the best we can when a customer is not satisfied. This is our policy.

Perhaps it could be that they do not like the thyme smell all the sudden..you never know. Funny animals, nice! I like it when pets have their own mind!
Who knows we will succeed in future to export this product to the USA. At this moment, due to all restrictions, we are not aloud to export. Hopefully all rules will get loser in future. I will keep you in mind or you can always ask us of course!

Also got a quote from Pets with Hart to ship 2 of the smaller bags and the difference was ridiculous! It also brings up a good point about weights. check this out:

Hi Michelle,

Ok I have been in touch with a few couriers in the UK, our post office
will not ship any parcel over 2kg in weight overseas.

The cost to send a parcel of 5kg with parcel force to the US I am being
quoted £87.29 and that is the cheapest quote.

For one parcel 1.7kg to ship airmail is about £30.#

Sorry but there just doesn't seem to be any options?

The shipping is really expensive and i have no idea why. Have you tried chinchillas2shop its a 1.5kg bag and im not sure about shipping but when i contacted her about one of their products she got back to me quickly so maybe they have some better options :)
