Chins being chins and hiding being sick, I did not notice anything wrong until this morning, when I noticed Herby just kind of being lazy on the bottom of her cage. She has done this before, but usually when it is warmer in the house. I keep the house between 65-68 degrees, and it was 67 in the room where she is at, so I knew it was not hot. Then I noticed she had a few small poops, that are hard and dry along with normal poops. She also had thrown most of her hay on the floor, but this is normal for her and I have seen her eating it along with her pellets. She is drinking normally, also. But she is not chewing as much and is swiping at her mouth and when I gave her a rose hip, she took it apart and basically just let the petals drop wherever. ( rosehips are her favorite )

I am a little worried about her, as she is my "tooth" chin and has been at the vet before for her teeth. It has been 5 months since her last filing, and I will be calling the vet for an appointment tomorrow. I have Critical Care, acidophilus, and Meloxicam and something whose name is so long I only have initials, SMZTMP. And I have some Mylicon drops for any gas that the meds cause. I know that one is for pain and the other is an antibiotic, but I have forgotten which is which. Can some one help me out there? Should I go ahead and giver her some of the meds tonight ( I hand fed her about 60 cc'sof CC and ground pellets just to be safe ). Unfortunately, the acidophilus is the caplets, not the capsules, so I am having to grind them up with her CC and pellets but I have to order more Lifeline.

Is there anything else I should be doing? I have done all this before, but this came up so suddenly that my brain is in overload and I am having trouble remembering everything.

TMZ is trimethoprim sulfa which is sulfa. It's the flavored antibiotic that they like.

It sounds as though you have all your bases covered, though I'm not sure why she would need to be on antibiotics at this point if it is a tooth issue. Did she have an infection before? I don't ever like to put a chin on an antibiotic unless they absolutely need it. I figure they are like people and eventually will build up an immunity, so I only use it as necessary.

In January, at her last filing, she lost a tooth while the vet was filing. The surrounding tissue was inflamed and a bit infected, so we got the antibiotic. I will not give it to her until I find out what is going on for sure though.

She has perked up considerably because she is tearing around her cage right now, singing and throwing stuff and hopping from ledge to ledge..
