I was cleaning and rearranging the boys cage tonight. I shut the doors so they wouldn’t try and come in while I was changing the bedding.
Ozzy *Hates* to be locked out of his cage… even during play time.

So here I am putting a new ledge on the TOP level of the FN 142 and I see two eyes looking at me. I almost had a heart attack!! There was Ozzy on the left side of the cage climbing to the top of the FN 142! He was about 6inches away from the top of the cage! I quickly scooped him up and told him no then gave him 100 kisses. Wow… never would have expected that to happen. He was so quite climbing up I didn’t even hear him.

Scary! :hair:

And I had to stop typing bc when I looked over there he was climbing up again.... any ideas on how to stop this behavior during play time? :cry3: I am afraid he will fall and break something!

Some of them just like to climb. I guess you could set up a play area with some distractions to keep him from doing it?

I'm sorry that he scared you so much. I know the feeling. I've scooped up chins so many times to give them 100 little kisses because I was scared so much by something that they have done. I did that tonight with a widdle teeny baby...he flopped out of the cage when I opened the door. I picked him up and held him up to my face for kisses and an inspection. These chins scare me so much sometimes...just like you. (We're normal...)

:( stupid climbing chin chin lol
nah I love him. He has a train, a maze, a ton of tunnles... I dunno guess Ill have to be on cage guard duty from now on.

I just bought them the new maze, the cottage and the town center thing. They've had the train for about 2 months.
*sigh* Thxs for responding so quickly though. I thought they didnt climb lol I was like what the heck youre a hopper not a climber!

Oh man...what a little brat brat! All that chin spoilage and he still has to be bad? My chins still fall for the one little play center and a few little tossie toys...

Get some of those 2 inch white plastic plumbing tubes, it comes in long sections, like IDK 8-10 feet. Saw it to lengths that will go around the outside of the cage. I guess I would take 1 inch wide strips of fleece to tie it to the cage bars. He shouldn't be able to scale over those. Let me know if I'm not being clear, it's kind of hard to explain.

I would separate the play area from the cage and have a tunnel/tube that leads back to the cage or something (or smaller path to the cage doors, but not the whole cage itself). I would hate for him to fall from that height. Try to make it where he can't access climbing areas, even if it is a structure set up only for play time. Think of the netting around McD's play places to keep the kids from climbing on the outside.....maybe that in fleece?

My chins have never tried to scale the cage but my one always tries to scale the playpen "walls" I have put up. They are only about 3 feet tall but I have caught him numerous time at the top and it scares me that he's gonna fall and hurt himself!

haha my chin does that! he does it when he wants to be in his cage if i close it. if i am cleaning the cage i put him in his carrier with toys or i put him in the bathtub. (i cover the drain thought) i dont know why but he loves how the bathtub is smooth and likes to jump on the edges and slide down
