I've been really missing Orson and Ivan lately...I feel so bad that I never got to take them outside to feel the grass, and hop around a bit on my lap and smell some dandelions...
And so I came across an ad in my local CL, looking to rehome a little boy chinchillas I think maybe 4 years old. His owners are looking for a good home for him for free because their cat won't leave him alone, and he is apparently very friendly..I am really tempted to go get him.
What do you think? I'm still waiting to figure out whether or not Sonya could be pregnant (should could have a baby into mid june, if not then she won't be having any more, because Rodya will be getting fixed as soon as I have the money...they are separated right now)...
This little boy could sure use a nice, knowledgeable home, and he would live in my room with me, instead of the living room/kitchen area like Mork, Rodya, and Sonya. He would get lots of attention...he's free, which is the really tempting bit.
I dunno, what do you think? To get him, or not to get him?

If it were me, I would get him, but I take in every chinchilla I can. :p

I have to admit, the first sentence of your post concerns me more than a little bit. You let your chinchillas outside and let them hop in the grass? To me that is just a disaster waiting to happen.

If you can do it and provide everything for the new chin he needs and have vet money set aside to take care of everyone, go for it! As far as outside time, nix that idea, when I was a newbie I took my girls outside, scared the poo out of them and they freaked out. They were traumatized for days.

I agree with Essentia, I think that it is great that you want to adopt the chinchilla but taking them outside is a very bad idea and could easily lead to their death. That comment scared me. I really thought you knew better than that

Poop, I thought it was okay because I would have had them in a playpen, with me sitting inside as well. Mork is the only one who has ever been outside, and only once, when I went to bury Ivan. Will be nixing that idea.
If you get the boy he could live with your other boy. Then your other boy wouldn't need to get neutered. I would not put 2 boys in with a female even if the boys are neutered.
I plan on keeping him separate for now, and if, after quarantine, when they're in their own cages and what not and seem to get along okay...well maybe then I'll think about putting Rodya and this new guy together. I wouldn't/couldn't ever put 2 guys in with Sonya. Poor girl would go crazy lol.
I just gotta fix up my room so he has someplace for his cage, then I'm pretty sure I'm going to go get him! I'm excited. His name is Pico. ^^

I picked up Pico today. He's really, really, super sweet. :D
I'll post a pic here, but if you want more, you will have to go to chin chat to see them :neener:

hes a cute little fellow congrats on your new addition and to Pico for finding his forever loving home. if one of the boys has ever been with a female or mated you might have a problem then again you might not. best of luck on whatever you choose to do in the future. im sure you will know what is right and best for you and Pico.
