heard sirens, thought nothing of it, they go by once in a while. realized sirens were outside my building and not fading away.......

look outside......

OMG! there are at least 5 fire trucks, if not more, all up my street! some with the extending baskets to reach up high. holy poop!

i go out to the lobby of my building to see firemen (a couple were dang cute, lol) coming down the stairway and also putting fans in the doorway of the building and carrying more in. they said the fire was out and not to worry. phew!

the fire alarm never went off in my building, so i figure the fire was contained to one suite. i sure hope the people in that suite are ok! i'll find out more tomorrow. kudos to my city's fire department for their quick action and coming prepared should the fire escalate!

and all that was going through my mind at the time was 'get my daughter out, get Rhino out'.

Wow, that is quite scary! A few weeks ago, there was a fire down my street and I'm freaking out wondering what's going on. Well, turns out there was a meth lab in the house! We don't really live in a bad neighborhood either! Turns out you never know what is lurking in your own backyard!

Glad you, Rhino and everyone else in your building is safe!!!

Here I'm thinking with my warped mind, that they put out one fire and ignited another (yours) Cute firemen are always a welcome site!
Glad there was no harm to anyone, and your OK!

Kay isn't that the truth! We live a block away from an elementary school, and there is a house down the block from us in opposite direction. I KNOW they are up to no good! Just keeping a log, of the comings and goings in case the info is ever needed. Per what my cop cousin told me, just watch and wait. We're in a good neighborhood too, but there is always a bad apple somewhere.....sigh

DITTO on the cute firefighters!! My husband is vol.fireman in our area which of course includes a college, so they have frequent calls to there. I told my hubby one day those "cute"guys end up just like him, married with kids.

oh wow...... turns out the suite that had the fire was actually pretty close to mine! i'm the first suite on the main floor, east side of the main lobby, and the fire was in the second floor suite, first suite to the west of the main lobby. scary! their balcony is all charred but still standing, and i didn't see any fire damage in the main hallway outside their door (i had to go snooping, lol). sure hope nobody was hurt, and that they have insurance! (as it is, i'm calling my insurance company today to double check my coverage and get updated documents, just to be safe).

next place i live is definitely going to be a house, and not a box connected to many other people's boxes! as much as i like not having to pay a water or gas(heat) bill, this is too nerve wracking. i'm still feeling out of sorts, didn't get any sleep last night after all this happened, and i feel completely drained. ugh.

I've been through 2 fires and they are really scary. My mom smelled smoke until the day she died! It makes you stop and check everything when you've been through or even seen a fire. People can be so careless too.

Hope your neighbors are okay.

the neighbours are ok, and they actually got the fire out before the fire department showed up. the wife of the couple is visibly shaken, i was chatting with her this morning and can tell she's quite stressed over it all.

as for me, i'm still recovering from being scared! since sunday night i've had trouble sleeping and any little noise wakes me up (i usually sleep like an absolute log!). once i meet with my insurance company tomorrow to review my coverage i'll feel better i'm sure.

Glad to hear everyone is ok! Fires are very traumatic to go through.

The room next to mine in the dorms caught on fire, we were on the top (13th) floor, it turned the stairways into waterfalls and we all had to tromp through the snow outside to boot. The good news is that nobody was in that room and nothing burned for very long - there were no injuries, just lots of tired, cold college students.

Hopefully the news on your insurance will be good!

Too many people choose to ignore fire alarms, smell of smoke etc. and loss of property/life can be the result. My husband has pulled up to homes/apts/business with fire/smoke detectors going off and people are still inside because "oh it's just a false alarm/drill".We spotted our neighbor's chimney fire one year and they actually tried to stay inside while firefighters were putting it out! I may be hard of hearing/sight/mind but thank the Good Lord I have a good sniffer (yeah and I still became a nurse LOL)!I called hubby at work(full time paramedic) and asked him to come home because I kept smelling "something like an electrical burn".He hurried home because he knows I would never ask him to come home unless it was an emergency(that I couldn't handle).Of course by the time he got home I didn't notice the smell, but smart man that my husband is went up and got the infrared camera at fire dept and the guys came out to check everything out. They didn't smell anything even though I still smelled a slight odor.Hubby went over mobile home with infrared detector and BINGO my nose was right!Slightly embarrassed but the source was an electrical oulet with extension cord. The outlet had shorted out from one of our sweet cats spraying the outlet!!!The entire outlet box and wall underneath had actually started melting. Now my hubby uses the extension cord/outlet as visual aids when he is teaching new volunteers.NEVER EVER IGNORE ALARMS or your nose.
