In high school we would climb the grain elevator. Some times at the end of the night the local ( uhm.. and only, lol ) gas station would give us the food if we were around, and we had some double cheese burgers, we dropped one off the top and when it hit ( it was still in the bag ) it literally shattered into a bunch of pieces from the impact...

Now that I think of it I might know why I have a fear of falling...

I did not learn my lesson from couple of few days ago (almost blew off my hand )

I'd suggest you search some fireworks (you can get free leftovers) and try hitting the melons with flares or something.

Or you can collect the power in a bag, make a fuse and bam!

Steve- fireworks are illegal here in AZ because the landscape is so dry and flammable. Not to say that people don't obtain them somehow.. but the risk of brush fire is too great for every yahoo idiot here to have access to them. And um, Susan, Alex says this thread is probably showing up in NSA watch because the words being used..

LOL The cataloupes are gone...I think my husband put them down on the compost heap when I was gone yesterday. I'm sick today so I don't want to check.

The NSA thing isn't a big deal, we put much worse things up online when I was in school. It's not that I want to use anything to cause damage to anything else. hehehe There's a lot to engineering that involves testing and destroying things to see what they can go through. Honestly, I think I would love working with crash testing cars....

I remember potato cannons. I never made any of those myself...probably because I was too busy trying to find a place to hide so that I wouldn't get hit by a flying chunk of potato as my brother gleefully chuckled pointing the cannon at me.
