My worst fear is true. The man I rescued Bubbles and her two 'cage mates' from back in October has chinchillas again...I was searching on CL to try and find some pet carriers (Shame on me) or some cages (shame on me double) in good condition for the rescues coming in next week and I saw his ad...I know it's his because he displayed his e-mail address and phone number...
I don't know, I really really don't know. I know it's the guinea pig food, cramped cage on back porch, no shavings, no timothy hay, dust bath once weekly in Kaytee dust bath reguardless of if it rains or not (It rained today...) and I'm just heart broken and in a panic. When I took Bubbles and Twinkie and Popcorn, he said "Chinchillas are too much trouble, I'd rather spit on one than to have another one come through my door" and there it is. Even on the ad it says 'very tame used in kids edu program' and I just twitch. He's going to charge for them again, and this time I don't think I can pay. Last time I took money out of my pocket (ALL of my money...) and called in favors from people who owed me just to pay for them. The poor thing looks awful, looks like Bubbles all over again...Fur chewed, greasy, scared. The ad also says he has 'ferrets' and $200 takes everything, chins and ferrets both. It just doesn't sound good, but with the 2-3 rescues coming in next week, I wouldn't have any where to put the chins, not unless my fiance wants to volunteer his apartment so that I can find homes for them.
I think I wanted to post this because I don't know WHAT to do. It took me forever to get the trio's diarrhea to clear up, get their fur in decent order, get them to be socially accepting towards humans again (Bubbles STILL isn't which is why I chose to keep her forever, that poor baby...) I DO have the option of calling my grandma in Lexington and asking to borrow the money, I DO have the option of asking my fiance to lend his apartment for a little while (He's knowledgeable in chins basic wise as far as feed, water, hay, and basic care) and I DO have the option of trying to find more cages, but I'm SO scared this man will just take the money, turn around and buy more chins for profit and mistreat them. I'm torn, I don't know what to do. I found Twinkie and Popcorn such AMAZING homes, the owners were so gracious when I went over everything and were so attentive and gentle with them, and I had people lined up to take them. I think what I need most right now is some opinions. This has taken me forever to write because I don't know if I should or not, but I need help on making this decision from experienced owners who've dealt with rescues such as myself before. I thought it was the end of abuse with my last three, thought he'd get no more and I was wrong...Admins/Mods, I'm sorry if this is misplaced, you can move it if you'd like, I don't know where else to put it, I don't know...
