Our family is soo mad right now, my niece Georgia is 11 years old and is getting serious prickly heat on her body due to hormones. She has had tests done at the hospital and has medication to take, it gets worse because she has quite bad hayfever aswell. The doctors say she can half of this store brought hayfever tablet just to ease the itchiness a day.

My sister has been explaining this to the school for months about what is going on and they are not listening as they keep phoning us to complain she has a rash. Today the school phones my sister and asks if they can give her half of a tablet, this is fine but they had already given her one and a half and mixed with the medication she is already on they have overdosed her.

We are all mad, my sister has had to phone the hospital who put us on to a hazardous subtances line and then they told my sister that Georgia could have trouble breathing and have a seizure. In which case Georgia would need an ambulance, the school is then freaking out and then they let slip that all the consent and medical letters my sister gave to them Wednesday has been lost, my sister then tells them it is against the law to give out medication without a consent form.

My niece actually tried to explain to the school that they were overdosing her but they didnt listen, shes feeling a little dizzy and her chest is a little tight. My mom went and picked her up and now my sister has come and fetched her, my sister has phoned the local education services and told us this is serious.

I actually cant believe the school has done this, has anyone else has had problems with schools ???

Nope... Never had issues like that. When I was in school (not that many years ago), the administration had some common sense and did not rely on forms to guide their actions. But then, I went to a small school where every kid was treated like someone's son or daughter, not as a number.

When i was studying at college, i was a teaching assistant in a school and they were quite strict on medications. The thing is the school isnt that big and they have had troubles in the past so you would think they would pay more attention.

my son has seizures, and has to take medicine to control them, but I never had any issues with the school. They've been more than helpful, watching out for him, calling me with any concerns, and making sure they were up to date on his health forms and meds he is taking. That is too bad that your niece and family are going through such a nightmare with the school. Do they have written documentation from the doctor as to what she is suffering from and what meds she is on and when to take them. It may be time to go into the school and sit down and talk with them face to face, and get this all sorted out.

Well my sister actually copied all the medical forms saying why she is coming out in these rashes and what medication she has to take and why, when my sister rang the school they told her they had lost them along with the consent forms to be alowed to give Georgia the medication. When my sister phoned them today and told the school that she can only have half of the allergy tablet, they started to try and just calm my sister down and when my sister phoned the school again saying that more than half the tablet can cause seizures the school started to panic.

Its silly that the lack of attention paid, the teacher that actually gave Georgia more tablets spoke to my sister face to face last week and my sister told the receptionist aswell who phoned her today. I mean where is the communication between the teachers !!

My sister went and put a complaint to the head teacher but because they have lost all my neices medical information it has to be investigated further. My neice has a hormone imballence because of puberty and will hopefully sort itself else, but because of this its messing with allergies too which is why she is getting these rashes and she needs the medication to help calm it down. The allergy medication which she can only take half of is to take the itch out of the rashes. More of the allergy tablets will mess with the medication already in her system.

your niece sounds a bit like my son. He just started having seizures in September, and it was attributed to his rapid growth rate and hormones. He is 12 years old. At first, the doctors thought he was having issues with his heart, and he was forbid to have any activity at all - no recess or gym or sports, until further testing. It was later discovered that his issues were neurological. But his school was great. Communication is very easy with the teachers, and everyone who needed to know what was going on with him, knew. The school nurse even contacted me several times to make sure they were up to date on his medical information. I sure hope your niece's school will quickly get their act together and there will be no more of these mistakes. They really do need to get their act together, before they end up causing a serious health issue with your niece or any other student. They shouldn't be dispensing medication unless they are clear of why it is needed, and how much is needed.

This is exactly why we need a Licensed/Certified School Nurse in every school building. Teachers are there to teach not to medicate and perform nursing tasks!!!

I found out my sister went and had a meeting with the head teacher after she left here, the head teacher says that Georgia was only given the half. This is clearly them trying to cover up their mistake as they told my mom and my sister before hand that my neice had one and a half of the tablets, not only that but Georgia is 11 years old and is capable of remembering how much she has taken. My sister is not pleased at all and has decided shes going to take things further.

Its not nice when i see her upset because she is scared shes going to have a seizure, the school is not going to take responsability and if she did have a seizure they wouldnt even be able to try and claim that they only gave her half. Atleast my neice is only having mild symptons it could of been worse, but my sister wont stand for this because it could of been much worse and it could happen to another child.

I hope your son is ok and im glad that some schools take it seriously, it scares me to think what could of happened.
