Im currently waiting for my fleece liners for my cage to come...
But I'm almost out of wood shavings in the mean time, would using news paper on the bottom of the cage be okay for a week or so?

Yes, newspaper is fine - most people here use it with no problems - many breeders use newspaper to line the cage floor for females with small kits.
Your chin will probably take great delight in shredded the newspaper & scattering bits everywhere.
