I got what I think is a pretty awesome deal for a Chinchilla Townhome from Quality Cages via eBay.

They are what I think to be crazy expensive, but after getting this one and putting it together, I can see why they're so expensive. This is my third home for my Chinchillas, and my first "Chinchilla Specific Cage".

Is there anything I should know about these cages regarding maintenance?

yea those cages are awesome, i have had one in the past. I would suggest you take out those wooden shelves and get an exact measurement on them. Thay way you can make new ones because after about 5 months, those wooden ledges will look nothing like that hahah your chins will gnaw the heck out of those hahaha, so i think you should measure them out and have spares made in the meantime. But other than that, its a wicked cage!

Thanks for the info. I thought about that, and then I noticed that Quality sells replacement board for around $6.00 ea. which might be a little more than what you would pay at Home Depots or Lowes, but once you including time cutting and installing hardware the cost would be worth it to me.

Now if I only could get them to stop peeing on wooden shelves they'd last a lot longer.

I have two QC Townhomes, and love them!

Regarding maintenance, I would recommend washing the pans once per week with a vinegar and water solution.

i bet your chinchillas are lovin you for getting them this cage:)

So far so good. I was actually a little worried at first cause it is not as tall as their old one, but this one is wider, so in the end the new cage is bigger square inch wise.

Being able to open the top and slide out the tray has made a world of difference when cleaning.

Thanks, for the suggestion.
