Hey there!

I just got my very first hedgehog on Tuesday. She came with a very small cage (I think it was one and half feet by one and a half feet). So I knew one of the first things I needed to do was get her into a bigger cage.

On Wednesday (yesterday) I made her a C&C Cage (the dimensions are two by three). I used chloroplast for the sides but I'm afraid I did not build the sides tall enough (they're about 7 inches tall).

I put her in her new home Wednesday night, and being new and still getting used to everything went straight to her igloo and fell asleep, so I went to bed. Around 4a.m. I woke up and couldn't stop thinking about her and if the temp was ok and what she was doing (ugh! new mommy syndrome!) So I went to check on her and she was no where in sight!! After about 30 mins of searching I found her on the other side of the house! I was able to get her back to the cage (after checking to make sure she wasn't cold/lethargic) and she went straight to the igloo and fell asleep. I did my best (the best I can do at 4am) to try to make a temporary makeshift wall so she hopefully wouldn't escape again and then went back to bed.

At 7 I woke up and she was gone again! She is now in her old cage and I need to get her out of there ASAP! It's just too small!!

So. Bottom line, how tall do the sides of a C&C Cage need to be so she doesn't climb out and escape? I've see pictures and videos of others, and none go all the way to the top but I'm thinking that's what I should do anyways... She appears to be quite the climber! Any help/advice would really be appreciated!

Thanks in advance!!

My sides on my C&C is 8 inches. I have heard of some people making them like 10-12 Inches high. Sonic is full grown and doesnt try to get out. I would suggest making a top for the cage out of extra grids to make sure she stays in the cage.

I've had a hedgie stretch, get her front feet up 12 inch plastic walls, and pull herself up and over. Seeing as how yours seems to be a bit of an escape artist, I wholeheartedly agree with the idea to use a few more grids to make a top.

Well she still managed to get out last night. Apparently she really is a big climber! Went right through the top! But at least I was able to see how she did it and can fix the problem. So the cage still needs some adjusting but it'll get there! Hopefully I can put pictures up once it's complete and totally escape-less!
