so i got my new hedgehog like 4 hours ago. i bought a gigantic cage and made him a little shelter made of cardboard. its been sleeping all day long and when i pick him up it becomes something like a sphere.i think he is scared and that is the way of protecting himself but how can i get him to trust me? anything else i should know?

Ive had my hedgehog for 6 days now and he started to trust me about 3 days in the first 2 days he was in a ball the whole time snorting and pricking me it will pass and your hedgie will see you wont heart him just let him smell you and move slow at first that will help

when it does start to trust you hand feeding it will help bond with it just watch your fingers

You could use a "hedgiebag" or a piece of clothing that smells like you and put it in its hide(where it sleeps) so it would get more accustom to you because hedgehogs have a very keen sense of smell. Before you hand feed it make sure your hands are clean.

4 days?

i got my hedge hog off of cregslist so hes not a rescue but the privious owner didint take him out much, i try to take him out as much as i can but he is always the same

iv had my hedge hog for more than half a year he has always been angry and goes in his ball iv tried alot of things iv put one of my shirts in his cage took him out alot. what do i do this has been going on for along time and im starting to think that geting a hedgehog was a bad idea :[

Some hedgies just don't like to be held or played with, as they like to do their own thing. My Penny is quite like that. I've had her for two years this summer, and she was from a rescue. She will hiss at me all day long if I try to interact with her, I just have to let her do her own thing. If I "ignore" her when she's out, she usually ends up coming to me, but it takes time. The shirt is a good idea, just make sure it smells like you (wear it to bed one night). Make sure its quiet and warm too when you take them out to make them as comfortable as possible. It is a patience game with these guys and it can get frustrating. Hopefully some more members will come along with more tips, I've just learned to accept my huffy ball of quills!

I've found warm hands is essential. Put your hands under hot (not scalding obviously) water for a few minutes so that they are nice and warm when you pick your hedgie up. I think it comes as less of a shock to them.
