I'm trying to attach photos but they only give you a url link. My pics are on my desktop.

Anyways, the new chinnie is violet, and is a black velvet carrier. He is so cute and energetic. He's 4 yrs old and is a Meadowbrook chin that I bought from another breeder here in Oregon. My hetero beige female seems to like him, but looks exhausted by his running in the wheel all night. He can move it faster than any chin I've seen. :) They snuggled together during the trip home and the beige was nibbling the back of his head and neck once they got into their big cage. She is 11 years old, but still is bright eyed and bushy tailed. She is a PSK chin and has a parent or grandparent that was black velvet. I hope they have babies. She's never had any babies because her last mate could never mount her without her scooting into a corner, spraying him with pee and/or scolding him. This little guy only seems interested in having a snuggle buddy and that's what she needs. She may warm up to his advances. Who knows.

Someone tell me how to post a pic that's on your computer. Thanks.

Yeah, I know. I'd just like her to have one litter before she turns 13. But I'll be careful about removing him from the cage into another cage when she's in estrous. She's never given in to being mounted, so it's likely she'll never have any chins.

Just so you know, the new chinchilla should have been quarantined for 30 days before coming into contact with the one you already had. That means, separate cages and separate rooms. Also, 11 years old is too old to start breeding her. And just because she hasn't yet, doesn't mean that she won't. You need to separate them and keep them separated. Oh, and a little side note, black velvet is not carried. If the chinchilla has the gene it will show unless the chinchilla is a white or an extra dark ebony. Since your new chin is a violet, if she has the gene, her violet areas would have significant shading to them. That would make her TOV violet. If the violet is all the same, then she is violet, end of story.

Darn! I wrote a whole email replying to all your concerns and it got deleted. I'm a conscientious chin owner. She is big, blocky and heavy, has never had a litter, and is either sterile or will not let any chins mount her. They are only snuggle buddies. He is a TOV violet. I got him from a small chin breeder and all her chins were healthy. There is like a 1% chance that she'll get pregnant and it is not my goal. I will take the proper steps to ensure she can never have chins again after any litter, especially if there are complications. Thanks for your concerns and the info.
