So I just got another chin and she was fed one of those mixed, unhealthy chinchilla foods (Prestige Chinchilla Nature). I started to feed her Oxbow right away because I know that food is terrible and all my other chins are on Oxbow. But she isn't eating it. I have Critical Care on hand, should I just feed her some of that until she starts eating? (it's only been just ovewr a day). She has been drinking, and she has eaten a small peice of Rosehip for being good at the vet (which she took gladly). Anyway i guess my question is, should I buy a bag of her old food and mix it that way? I'm just afraid that its too unhealthy...

Also, can you freeze critical care?

Thanks

Is your chin eating hay? If the chin's eating something, I'd give it another day or so before worrying about not eating the food.... sooner or later, the chin should get hungry and try the food. It's like if you gave a kid candy for years, with no veggies, and then said here, eat this broccoli. They don't want to eat the broccoli.

I wouldn't personally do the mix if the old food is junk. A cold switch should be fine, just give lots of hay.

We keep our critical care in the freezer... it doesn't freeze, really, it just becomes cold critical care, haha. When we need it, we use it straight from the freezer. Apparently, it's supposed to last longer that way.

When my chins were new they didn't eat much at first. I think having lots of hay and letting them warm up to the environment would be good. I guess if it carries on for a bit of time, I would start up the CC. I gave it to my second chin, Ralphy when he wouldn't eat at first after bringing him home and it kinda freaked him out....
