Yesterday we brought home our first chin! He's the sweetest thing! We purchased a PREVUE hendryx cage 495. Love the cage except for a few things...we know that we should NOT have their feet on the wired bottoms. When we placed the plastic tray in lieu of the wire there was a pretty big gap that we felt was dangerous for him. So we placed the wire and then the plastic underneath. On top we placed an old pillow case and felt better but obviously that will get super dirty and need frequent changing. ANY advice out there???
I did some quick searches on the forum but I'm honestly overwhelmed..thanks!

You could get fleece that is big enough to wrap around the wired bottom. Then just slide the fleece-wrapped wired bottom back onto the bottom. That's what I did for my own cage.

Hello,

The plastic should not be anywhere that can be chewed on. Small pieces of plastic can cause blockages in the intestines causing health hazzards.

The fleece is a great idea. You can buy it really cheap by the yard (pill resistant) and make several so you can wash one if it's dirty and relpace it with the other while washing the other.

You could also use ceramic floor tiles or make wooden floors. I did the wooden floors in mine and covered them in areas with tile. My chin is potty trained and the solid floor makes it really easy to clean up the poop. Saves on litter to because it is only needed in the litter pan.

I think alot of us have had to adapt the cages we purchase to accomodate our chins.

Good luck and let us know how your fix works.
