Well, I went to PetSmart today and was browsing the chinchilla section. I saw a cage and it looked decent. It was made completely out of wood except for a plastic tray, BUT it didn't look like the chins could get to it. I can not find it ANYWHERE online, but i'm thinking about getting one just to try. It is only $49.99. I can't remember the dimensions but I think it was at least 30"L 18"w and 25"t. Here is a picture from my phone

I know it still isn't WONDERFUL, but for Petsmart to be carrying a cage with wood instead of (all)plastic is still a huge step!

I think that's great. They've got Blue Cloud and a cage that is what people have been asking for - wood shelves. The ramps are still not of much use, just because chins bounce more than anything else, but it provides more chew time for them.

ETA: I hope the clearance tag isn't for the dust. They just got it!

It looks like they still can get to the plastic base, it has the same edge where the wire meets that the Super Pet ones have.

The clearance tag is for the scented dust!! I was happy about that. Also, yes I just noticed that, but I think they'd be more focused on the wood. I still think i'll get one to try it out and see if it would be something i'd recommend.

One of the things I liked about it is that it looked like the spacing between the bars was 1/4in

Does it say what wood they use?

And they could have picked a better chin to use for the blue cloud. Comparing pictures (If I didn't know any better) I'd have bought the sand because the chinchilla on that product looks nicer.

From the picture it looks like pine, which is awesome. And Alli, I swear every pet store dust has a greasy chin on the front. Maybe they are thinking, if your chin looks like this, use this dust! Personally, I would put a nice, freshly dusted, chin on the front, but apparently these companies don't think like I do. :p

Not to get too off topic, but I was just at PetSmart the other day, I didn't see any blue cloud (sadly) but they did have a bunch of willow wood chews and toys! I got some for my chins (they've never had willow). They didn't seem to like it, but it did make me happy to see PetSmart actually trying.

I actually buy the willow tunnels at Petsmart, they are cheap compared to the busy bunny willow items. Its good to see they are actually trying to sell better stuff!

I just picked up some blue cloud for Kiwi at petsmart a few days ago. She's had 2 baths so far, and she really seems to like it better then the old stuff. To me it looks like it coats her fur better. Can't wait to see the results after a few more days. P.S. my son was with me and rolled his eyes and called me a crazy chin lady after he saw how excited I was to have found the blue cloud. Kids......

I stopped at the Petsmart near my work the other day...they had a shelf tag for Blue Cloud, but the shelf was empty. Maybe a good thing...means people are passng on the sand and getting the Blue Cloud.

i know i saw it , but it's not so easy to clean you have to take the wehole cage off the wooden part and take the top off of the cage

I really like that cage! I know it's not perfect, but it's better than half of the other crap they have out there, I hate cages that are like purple and pink and green! Drives me INSANE! ...This is something you could get away with having in your living room, haha.

Would this cage be big enough for two chinchillas? I am getting a pair tomorrow, my first chinnies and I cannot wait! From the pic, I THINK the size says: 27L X 17W X 25H....Probably not, but just thought I'd ask... My new babies are coming with a HUGE cage, but I have no idea what kind of quality it is, so I am keeping my eye out for better cages just in case.

I suppose you could fit two in here.. but I personally would go with something bigger for two chinchillas. I think it'd be a bit cramped.

Okay, I will keep looking then if I really do need a new cage. Fingers crossed it's in good shape, and not too dangerous!

I had a two story Ferret Nation cage awhile ago, but my ferret passed of old cage and I got rid of it! Boo!

I also have a flying squirrel and he has a giant flight cage that sits on the floor and still comes up to my shoulders! I love my squirrel <3 I wish they were as available as Chin's... But that always means there are people out there who can't take care of their animals and don't do their research on good care. :(

Here's hoping for ya! We had two rescues come in with a Quality Cage once, so it's very possible it could be a good cage. Like idiots, we adopted out the cage with the rescues as a sort of package deal (we like QC's, I'm not sure why we didn't give away one of our crappy spares), later found out the new home re-homed the chins... but then 2 years later, saw the cage for sale... from the original guy we sold it to with the rescues... contacted him and he lowered the price for us... and so now we have it back. See, shoulda kept it in the first place...

You know, about the ferret nation... you just never know. It could have gone the other way, where after the ferret passed, you never got another pet that the cage would have worked for. I have found though, that invariably, the freakin second I sell something that I'm like "I won't be using this again" - the following week I need it and end up having to go buy whatever it is, at full price from a store. I was at my parents' place for a week a bit ago, and we had some spare chinchilla cages there... cleaned em up, put em on craigslist, sold em... JUST had someone contact me about taking a rescue (without a cage). And it's like, with a bit of shuffling around our current chins, we can take one of our current cages and use it... but it's like those spare cages sat empty for years... and just when I sell em... *rolls eyes* *shakes head* Typical.
