I am new to this forum, so I would like to say a quick hello to everyone.

I have a friend who has an estranged partner (I say just strange) and that partner has a LOT of Chinchillas that they are neglecting, sometimes for days. Leaving them without food and / or water, and often giving them minimal amounts of food even when they do make some time to see them. The other partner tries to help but they are allergic to dust and other things which makes them self ill when they try to help. The worst part is the partner which owns the Chinchillas neglects them so they can spend hours and hours with another friend so they can play with their horses. This other friend does not care, and the partner in question seems to think that them being at work all day, then at the friends is Ok. They even have a young son which they do not see because of the other 'Friend' and 'Horses' which they care much more about.

Do you have any suggestions what I should do. They seem to think it is fine for a 'Rodent' as they call it to go a day or more without food and water, and that includes Chins with new babies. I don't think it is OK at all, but in the past when I have tried to mention anything they have retaliated against me.

I am curious if anyone thinks it is OK to neglect Chinchillas and a little boy (let alone their partner) so they can spend time with another friend so they can play horses and play Zuma and Bejewled on Facebook at their friends house for hours on end. The other partner even messages them and the friend to let them know that the animals need care, but they just ignore it. Everyone I talk to says that it is not OK but them.

Please help.

Well quite obviously nobody is going to say it's okay for chins to be neglected on a chin forum, so it's pointless to ask. Unfortunately, in situations like this, unless you are willing to take the animals on yourself, and can talk them into giving them to you, nothing can be done. You can try calling your local humane society and see if they can step in, but I doubt they will do anything. People have tried in the past and nothing has come of it because the owner lies to them humane officer.

You might also direct them to this forum and we can try to educate them. Quite often though, that doesn't work either because they just don't care.

Again, no one is going to say that this situation is good for the chins. Your "friend" obviously doesn't know the proper way to care for chins, and shouldn't have them in the first place. Like already said, you could offer to take the chins yourself and keep them or find good homes for them, or you could call animal control and report the neglect. And at the very least, provide them with this forum. Without proper care, the chins could end up at the vet, which could be very costly.

I hope the best for these chins.

Like Tunes said, sadly, there are even those who own animals and simply don't care! They have them, just to say they have them, and you can talk until your blue in the face. IF one dies, well they just go out and get another. Makes me sick.

I would definitely try to report the neglect to either animal control or the humane society. I don't predict they will do anything, but it is worth a shot. You can't educate someone when they simply don't give a crap. It's very sad.
