So some of you already know that my hotel that I work at was just sold. We were all very excited because we were told no one would be losing their jobs and we would be getting great benefits.

So of you may also know already that there is a Hilton Program right now called "Catch Me at My Best" where our guests write us great reviews. Right now Im way ahead of everyone else.

So right now since the hotel sold they have us signing all the rehire paperwork. If you dont sign it you do not have a job. Well in that packet there was a paper that explained that they were going to do a background and credit repost check. And they can and will fire you and you have no recourse if you have bad credit or a criminal history. So what were we going to do except take our chances.

So Lehigh Acres, Fl (Where I live) and the rest of Lee County was the hardest hit economy wise. The president was here assessing things a few different times because of it. So I ask, WHO DOESNT have bad credit? The people with good credit, unless they are KIDS, wont work for $4.26/hr(server) or $8-10/hr anywhere else. Having bad credit does not make a person bad or unqualified for a job. Right now they have fire the backbone of the front desk. He was the spirit of this company and now he is gone. They have let go people who have been here since the beginning when they opened. People who are great at their job. I dont see anyone else really being left.

We are all so worried. But I am especially. Everyone who has been let go has a working spouse or live with parents. Someone to still bring in some income. I do not. And this is what worries me. I know Im gone. I have student loans and an idenity theft on my credit. So its been hit pretty bad.

So Please keep me and my fuzz and quill butts in your thoughts and prayers. If I dont keep my job please pray that I find a better job elsewhere quickly.

You'll be in my prayers. If there's a way to do so, you should let them know about the identity theft issue, especially if you have any paperwork to support it.

Wow! That is absolutely crazy! I cant believe they are firing people over having bad credit. I didn't even know they could do that.

I just started working today in a hotel and I can tell you the hotel I'm at would be grateful for the people who's been there since opening. They've had 3 housekeepers they'd had to fire in June alone.

Me and all the fuzzbutts (Chinnies and everything else) will keep you in our thoughts. Hope they keep you ;)

Will keep you in my thoughts Mel. I hope everything works out and you don't lose your job.

If something happens with this job, you'll find something else. It doesn't sound like your credit is that bad. It always is so strange that they do a credit check for new employees...isn't owing money the reason why people have to work?

I hope that they recognize that you are an excellent employee and that letting you go would be a big mistake.

Mel, I'll be praying!
Honestly, I hate credit. Easiest thing to damage and hardest to repair!
Have you had the credit bureaus add a note that you're an identity theft victim?

I feel for you and I hope you don't get fired. My credit isn't the best, either, and I know the fear of not having someone else in the home to bring in money if you can't. I wonder if you can talk to the people in charge of firing and explain try to reason with them. In any case, I know things will work out for you.

I know, I don't understand it either. I'm sorry about your situation, I hope everything works out.

Mel you are an awesome person and just because they say they are going to do it doesn't mean they will. There is absolutely nothing wrong with brown nosing and now is the time to put on that million dollar smile you have! You are a very dear friend of mine and you are ALWAYS in my thoughts and prayers because of that! I love you, Mel!

I'm sorry Mel. I really don't understand how they can fire you based on your credit report. That's ridiculous. People's credit has no bearing on how good an employee they are. The criminal record check is important but sheesh, credit!

Apparently having bad credit means you are going to steal. So you are a liability to the company. And since I have access to thousands of credit cards and hundreds up to thousands in cash I am a liability.

They say people are going to steal to cover their debt. Ive already been punished by my debt(credit rating) why would I steal? People are more inclined to steal to make that payment on time and keep their credit good. (Dont take that as people with good credit steal. They dont.) But why base my job on what you think MAY happen? I have never stolen. Why not go by that? Its not worth my lively hood to steal a couple bucks here and there.

I find out either today or tomorrow. I hope they dont make me do the drive and that they just do it over the phone. Its a 35 min drive one way. Its just very depressing that my great reviews wont help me. They have literally made me a number. The one guy we were all shocked about was literally the spirit of the hotel. He was such a great guy to work with and for. But It doesnt mean a thing. The staff literally walked around like zombies as if the people fired were dead. And we knew we were next to die.

People are now looking for jobs and HOPING they get fired. From the time I left last night to me getting here today everything has changed. They want to cut back on breakfast and they want to cut back on shuttle hours. And take this that and the other away from the guest. Well if we dont offer it we wont have guests to try and please later.

Yes, I agree with your statements here. Times are tough, sure. But if I'm going to spend some of my money on travel, I want it ALL. If they are taking away some of their 'luxuries', I'd be looking at a different hotel to stay at. They are shooting themselves in the foot.

Melissa, I hope for the very best for you. I wish I could help in some way.

I know that your insurance rates will also vary depending on your credit score and I think that's bs. My husband's mom lost her house, even after inheriting like 60K ( more than enough to pay off what was owed ) and then had to BORROW money from us to get a deposit on a rental. Of course it's never been repaid, but now she works for some company who sells you life insurance and helps you get on a budget plan type thing to pay off your bills etc... so yea, I've yet to figure that out.

Have you contacted your local work force or a free lawyer to see if this procedure is even legal?

I worked in banking for several years and the only people to ever steal large amounts of money were not those with bad credit. Sure a teller got fired here and there for snagging $20 or $50 from her til--which hello you stupid girl, that drawer is yours and the loss goes against you, but mostly I found managers and personal bankers taking money from the general ledgers thinking it would not be found. One manager had a gambling problem and would take out from the ledger and then when she won put it back--until she wasn't winning anymore.

All I know is when you work with money (and those of you who do knows exactly what I'm saying) when it actually looks like money to you in your drawer it might be time to leave or get out of that job.

I would stand next to pallets full of 100's as I worked where the main vault was and it meant nothing to me--I was always a business teller and 100,000 grand in my drawer just looked like green paper. I would be more excited about the $5 in my wallet than anything in my drawer.

And Nicole I agree with you bad credit should not raise or change your insurance rates--you record as a driver should, or homeowner should. I have never, ever had an accident, and have had 2 speeding tickets in my entire 31 years of driving--yet because my credit is not exemplary I have to pay more--it's rather annoying and prejudice.
