hey all,

so i think i've lucked out and found me a portable air conditioner for Rhino's room for only $100! and delivery is included at no extra cost, yay!

it's this one, from what i can tell from the kijiji ad:

http://www.walmart.com/ip/Diplomat-5-000-BTU-Portable-Air-Conditioner/10811985

here is the ad:

http://edmonton.kijiji.ca/c-buy-and...t-Portable-Air-Conditioner-W0QQAdIdZ281048649

is this a good unit? Rhino's room/my bedroom is about 10x10 feet and has a tree right outside the window that makes a good bit of shade in the summer. the window on the room does face south, but up here we don't get too many days that are above 25/26 celcius (about 80F) in the summer. i'm hoping it will be enough to keep the room cool, since i really don't want to have to spend more than 100! i went with a portable because i have sliding windows that look to be too narrow for most conventional window units, and the condo bylaws at my building are rather 'fuzzy' when it comes to window a/c, so i figured i'd go portable to save any hassles.

the reviews i've read online so far are very mixed, and if any of you have this specific portable unit and would share your thoughts on it, i'd much appreciate it, thanks!

so got my air conditioner this morning. it is awesome! put the hose in the window, plugged it in, turned it on, set it to 68, and had cold air blowing within a minute. woo hoo!! lol. super easy to figure out all the controls too.

and the icing on the cake....... it came with enough window panel pieces that i can move it to my living room and put it in the patio door if i want, yay! Rhino could have vacations in his cage in the main area of my place, lol.

i am loving this a/c more and more! had it on for a bit this morning but didn't leave it on when i went out earlier (it's not that hot out during the day yet up here in 'Deadmonton', lol), and when i got back Rhino's room was about 71, so i fired it up and it is so nice and cool in there now (didn't check the thermometer but it feels much cooler than before), and i only turned it on 20 minutes ago, and the fan is on the lowest of the three settings! i've got the bedroom door closed, but i can feel cool air coming through from the hallway adjacent to the room.

dang, am i happy i jumped on that kijiji ad!!! :))

it has a collection container for the water, and the control panel has a feature that tells me when the container needs emptying, but i will be doing a visual check with my eyes every couple days. my humidity is really low, so i don't expect the container to need dumped too often. humidity has never gone above 40% in my place, and that's with 3 fish tanks running, and the humidity meter being within 4 feet of one tank.

Danby makes good ACs. I don't have this one but I do have a bigger Danby and it is awesome compared to a different brand that I also have. Good buy!

before purchasing a Air conditioner you must have to check your capacity of room.Your statement shows that you have checked capacity of your room and your choice would be definitely rational.
