For anyone that might remember any of my posts, Ive been around for a while due to my physical disability. I have been living with and relying on my dad. Well he died unexpectedly yesterday. I know the info is around here somewhere, but I'm far to stressed, tired, and busy to search for things on here right now. And i might have a few more concerns coming up. So i ask for any input that you can.

First one being, I'm going to have to leave the apt where I'm staying. Possibly moving to another state which is a good 3h~ drive away. If that does happen, i was worried about the stress of traveling that for my 5 chins. Not to mention they would be stressed out most likely from all the ppl and packing out around here before hand. Will they be ok driving that long? and what can i do to help them.

And if i do end up at the location I'm assuming right now, does anyone know any good experienced chin vets in Harrisburg PA?

I have a few good vets. I will look up some names and phone numbers for you. Chins travel quite well. I just went to a show 5.5 hrs away each way last month. Just make sure they are in safe carriers and watch the temp.

I can't help with vets, but I can assure you on the travel part. I take my two boys on a long trip every year. It's 7 hours up and back and they sleep the whole trip. I put them each in a small carrier with their cuddle buddies and a fleece liner folded up as a pad. They go in the car with me as the last thing packed and get brought in when we get there first before anything else. We keep the car moderately cool inside so they're comfortable. I don't give them anything special to eat for the trip and they seem uninterested in eating or drinking while on the road. I offer anyway, just in case.

Plan to bring them in when you get out of the car and find them a spot out of the way, and out of the sun if it's still daylight, while their cages are brought in. Set up their cages as soon as you can and get them settled as soon as possible. They should be fine once in their familiar cages. And your trip is short so I wouldn't worry about food or water until setting up the cage once you're there. You even have some wiggle room between getting them out of the car and into their cages, in case the movers need your direction or have the cages (which I'd expect they will).

I moved with birds from an apartment to a house. It's similar in that they can be subject to the same stresses and don't do well with change. I followed the same procedure I just listed above and they did just fine. My finch even sang for the movers. It was a great day.

I'm sorry to hear of your loss and I wish you the best on your move. Your chins should be fine with the trip.

I'm sure if I missed anything, that someone else with experience traveling or moving with chinchillas will chime in.

i didnt even think of it that day, but i think i might wanna get a few extra pet carriers. I have 2 ferrets, 3 female chins, and 2 male chins (that CANNOT be allowed to see the girls at all)... and 2 carriers. lol guessin that wouldnt work out to well ;)
