Ok, without saying who the breeder is yet, I am planning on getting a few more chins from.a very well respected breeder. Gotta love bartering as we will be trading chins for time at my beach house at the ocean. I love showing it off so feel.free to take a peek at it at katescottageinwestport.com We designed and built it a few years ago.
But I digress.
I will hopefully be getting them in a few weeks if I can find someone to.bring them back from the show in Eugene to Seattle.

Anyhow, I would be interested in a checklist of exactly what points to look for when looking at my own chins to decide what I need to improve and what to look for in a new chin. I have been told before but it would be helpful to have it written down.

It would also.be helpful to know exactly how to judge coat density and quality.

So far I have Hayley, who is a medium.ebony from.Viking chinchillas. Gracie an extra dark ebony from Chins NW and Eiffel, a mosaic from.Rivendell. Then of course we have the babies, who still appear to be females, one a mosaic and the other a medium ebony.
At least one of the new chins will be a male.

I plan on getting standard from another very well respected breeder this fall but have not decided on whether to get a male or female.

The first thing you need to do is identify your herd goal. Since you already have ebony and white chins in your herd I am assuming you intend to work with these 2 mutations. If this is your goal and the chins you own are of breeding quality then you need to purchase chins that will improve their quality.

There are may factors involved in improving the quality of a chin. There is no way anyone can tell you what to look for it is too complex. Someone experienced with breeding and herd improvement is what you need.

Having your chins looked at in person by someone who has experience grading animals will help you identify which qualities the chins you want to breed need improvemnt. You need to have someone help you choose the animals you purchase.

The animals must compliment your chins. Whomever helps choose needs to see the animals in person and know the lines they are from.

Hope this helps. I know it's not what you want to hear. :))

Yes, this is something that was going to happen next week but will now be postponed until.after I get back from helping take care of my dad's affairs and funeral in nyc. But I would like some info now so that I can be more prepared for that when I get back.

I have learned and understood more going to the Field day show then I do one year being online. Being a guest "Judge" is the best way to learn. Words and pictures just don't do enough.
