We picked up two new chins yesterday, a male ebony, and a female white. The male has a lot of anger in a little body! As soon as I open the cage he is kacking away, the female isn't overly friendly, but is pretty sweet.

This is the female, any help with names? I've been wavering between Hadleigh, Galena, and Fauna, but other names are more than welcome.

They weren't happy for pictures. :p

This is the male, I have no idea of any names for him. As I said before he is pretty wild...suggestions?

Are you sure that he is an ebony - I thought that you were a breeder???

He looks more like a black velvet to me but to be fair that isn't the best belly shot.

Also, hope that you have figured out what has been making your chins sick and are quarantining these animals.

BV have a white belly, correct? His belly is a little lighter than his top, but it's not white by any means. I'll get a better belly shot later, I don't want to bother him too much, he doesn't like me much.

No, I have not discovered exactly what is making my animals sick, I have my ideas and I am changing my feed before I pair anymore animals. They are being quarantined. They are from a reputable breeder, if anyone is curious.

So you haven't switched feed as of yet, and you're not sure about what's making the chins sick, but you're getting more? I don't get it.

Didn't expect you too, I haven't explained yet :) I bought food today to start switching everybody over. I just wanted to give these two a chance to get settled in, this is their second change of home in a month, so they are a little traumatized.

Actually, I did know that. I just didn't want to come off rude. I have owned a BV before. I put that as a question so that I didn't sound offensive.

They are lovely :). I really like Jer's idea for Smoke and Fog (or maybe Smokey and Foggy?). It's funny how u can tell so much from their eyes. The female looks so relaxed and friendly, but the male looks like he would be a kacker. Poor little guy, was he not well loved in his old home? Well good luck getting him to warm up to u and good luck finding what is making your others sick. It sounds to me like they are in good hands so I'm sure you'll get it all worked out.

He was loved in his old home, but he was a large scale breeder, and just didn't get all that one on one attention :) I believe they were both bred by Brown's chinchillas... The Male will just sit absolutely still when you hold him, once you get him out of his cage, that is...

I, too, like the names Smoke and Fog!!! Roger and Kathy Clark have a beautiful brown/black Boxer named Smoke.

These 2 are gorgeous!!! Congratulations!!!

How about Tarzan for the male... since he's so wild, :)

And for the girl....she has such calm eyes. I almost named one of my chins Miyuki cause it meant "calm deep snow."

One more vote for "Smoke&Fog"! I think they are lovely, and will perfect for a pair. Beautiful contrasting colors, white and black..very lucky

I would not add any more chins until I A: found a emergency vet and B: found out the issue in the herd. Browns chinchillas as in June Brown? Just curious.

That just doesn't make any sense, Mikayla.

Your mom is also on the forum, right? What does she think about all of this?

You have GOT to get some priorities straight.
1) Have you found an emergency vet?
2) FIND OUT WHAT IS GOING WRONG IN YOUR HERD.

You should NOT be bringing in more animals when there is a possible health issue in your herd.

1) I've got three emergency vets.
2) Didn't I already address this issue? I believe it is the feed. WHICH is what these guys were on when I got them :)

My mom is on the forum, I can ask her to pipe in if you'd like, but considering she's my mom...she listens before she jumps to conclusions :)

Also, I just worry about soming off as rude, a lot of people on here do and I don't want to be one of them.

You "believe" it is the feed, but you don't know. Why not wait until you are sure before exposing more chins? I am sorry Mikayla, if this comes off as rude. I don't mean it to be. I just have a hard time understanding when, in the past, your chins haven't received immediate vet care for various reasons-- one being you wanted to wait until morning to save some money. Yet you have no problem spending that money on more chins.
