After many many months of anticipation, on a dark and stormy night in CT my little girls have come home! I just picked them up on Tuesday (sorry I wanted to post right away but its been a really crazy week for me work-wise).

Of course I was all stressed out that not everything was 100% complete with the cage (ok so I'm using fleece instead of the tile that I'm still waiting on to be cut) but now that they're here I'm so happy I didn't wait any longer and they certainly seem satisfied with their new home :))

I'm totally in love and can't wait for the 3 day weekend so I can finally spend some time with them! By contrast, they don't seem to quite know what to think about me yet...

Perhaps due to her past life as a showchin, Cheska (BV) is adjusting much easier than Sophie (V). Cheska has been enjoying romping around the cage, I even saw her running in the wheel last night! She's been eating treats (whole oats & flowers) out of my hand and comes up to me when I make kissy noises at the cage lol! Last night I was up really late working and she came right up were I was sitting and seemed to be listening to my music and watching me (pic 3). I love her haha

Sophie, poor lil thing, seems really stressed by the whole experience. I've been trying my best to just leave her alone and let her get comfortable on her own timeline. She does a lot of this "frozen" pose (pic 4) where I can tell she's just super stressed and wants me gone. I've just been talking to her and still try to offer her goodies when I'm also giving them to Cheska (don't want her to feel less loved).

The hardest part is being patient with them getting to know me! I'm already so in love after all this build up I just can't wait to take them out to play and all that fun stuff.

A few questions for my fellow chinparents:
-What signs should I be looking for to know they're ready for out of cage playtime?
-How about dust baths? Presumably I can just put the bath inside their cage until they're ready for playtime...
-Is there anything more I can do to help out poor lil Sophie? I'm mostly just trying to leave her alone as much as I can.
-My boyfriend (who knows almost nothing about chins ha!) thinks that it's too bright in their room during the day and wants to cover the font/top part of the cage. I'm worried about ventilation... do they need an as-close-to-pitch-dark place during the day?

Beautiful and spoiled already!

I was going to suggest covering the top of the cage, but you have already. That just makes the cage seem less open and intimidating for them. As far as too bright during the day, they are crepuscular by nature, so they sleep when it's light out. They're most active at dusk and dawn. My boys will be more awake and alert if it's darker in the house and sleep best when we open the blinds and let the sun in.

Just give them time. You can put dust in at any time...they know what to do. As for the lighting, the way you have the cage covered up looks fine to me. You don't need to make it completely dark. They're beautiful by the way! Grats!
