I have had Charlie for about 2 years now. Some of you from chins and quills may remember that he had been injured and was dragging his back legs around. Well thats all fine now for the most part, he can use his legs just not as well. He doesn't jump as well as he used to but he's alive and happy. I had been thinking alot lately about hair ring for some reason and realized that since he hurt himself I havent seen him cleaning himself in that area. He probably has a hard time standing/sitting upright without holding on to the cage. It bothered me so much I decided to try checking this morning. I watched all the video's so I knew what to do, and lo n behold there was hair there. He doesn't really like to be handled but he loves me so he wiggled and squeaked a little but he handled it pretty well for his first time.

Just another thanks to how informative this website is. Had I not decided to check for him we know what the worst case scenario could have been. It doesn't look to be infected or swollen so I think we're good =)

I'm glad you checked and found it. It's a great preventive thing you can do for your boy. They might not particularly like it, but like that old saying goes, "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure." Hair ring checks can save your chin a lot of physical problems, and you a lot of $. :)

Yah, good job!! And, yes it does get easier. I can do them by myself now and all my chins have at one time had a problem. I check monthly. And, good you recognized that a problem could arrise. I had one of mine get so bad--he quit eating and chewing on his sticks--then i had a "whole" other problem to correct. Ugh!! keep on checkin'!!!haha
